We require a master's in math or a related field with 18 hours of grad level classes with a MATH prefix. Related fields are engineering, chemistry, physics, and the like. If the education hours have a MATH prefix, we will count those, but if we do, I look carefully at the content and count only the ones that demonstrate mastery of the discipline. I might count one class if the teacher teaches AP with a demonstrated record of success or has some way to prove competence otherwise. I do have a teacher with an art education degree teaching intro to fine arts, but SACS had a problem with her teaching art history, and it makes sense now, so we took her off of that course. I have an economics teacher with 9 hours of finance, 3 hours of economics, 9 hours of accounting, an MBA, a CPA, and 20 years of experience in the field. I had no problem with that justification, so one thing I've learned is that sometimes you can make a justification if you document carefully. Hope this helps!
