Hi Everyone,

Friday 8th we had The Spring Garden Gathering where the Thurgoona
Community Garden was officially opened. Hopefully we'll see more
people coming to join our group now that we've shown all our hard work
in the yard off. The Thurgoona Community Center got a lot of
promotion on the day so that's great for them too and I hope the
ladies from The Woolshed Creek Community Group made plenty of money
for their charities out of it all as well. Most of all I hope people
are keen to get gardening in their own back yards if they're not
already.

I wrote some about the event with pictures here just in case you
missed it:

Did everyone see the article about the fabulous community garden in
Wodonga:

The cooks over at the TCC Hall for the Aged Care group on Fridays hope
to use produce from our garden in their kitchens, so that'll give us
more motivation to keep planting and maintaining the edible crops.

This coming Friday October 15th 9-11 there are some seedlings to plant
from Howlong Seeds, there's a group coming to work in the garden from
Aged Concern, and we can fertilse with Seasol and some worm wee.

See you in the garden soon,

Jaime.

Hi Everyone,

We were completely rained out last Friday so we just chatted in the
kitchen instead of getting out into the muddy garden. This also meant
the Age Concern Group Visit had to be canceled.

A few things were discussed though.

* Curl Grubs - We discussed how curl grubs can ravage a garden. I
found this article about them on the SGA website: http://www.sgaonline.org.au/?p=116

* Cancelling our Bunnings BBQ - It was decided that we would cancel
our Bunnings BBQ that was going to be on November 14th. So cross that
one off your calendars.

* Street Harvest - This is a volunteer organisation to provide food
for the needy in Victoria. They take excess food donations. You can
become a street champion collecting excess veges and fruit from your
neighbours gardens and delivering it to their offices. More
information: http://www.vrfb.com.au/Text/1274920123363-9432/pC/1274255411344-0083/

* ABC Learning child care Thurgoona - They are interested in having a
vege patch at the preschool. If anyone is interested please get in
contact with them, ABC Learning is located across the road from the
Thurgoona Community Centre. http://www.childcare.com.au/thurgoona

Next Meeting: Friday October 22nd 9-11am. We will plant the
seedlings from Howlong seeds. We can put in some seeds for pumpkins,
zucchinis, corn etc. Fertilise the garden beds with charly carp.
Lets also talk about mulching.

Hope to see you in the garden soon,

Jaime.
