Can anyone in the group volunteer to provide minor mechanical support and serve as a SAG rider during the rides tomorrow (Wed), Thurs. and/or Fri?  The TCBA Youth Cycling Club summer camp started today and needing another person to help out.  They’d likely be happy to have more than 1 if any of you are available.

Here’s their YCC 2025 Summer Camp Volunteer Sheet so you can see more details about the camp events.

Please contact Jack or Arianna directly with any questions.

Subject: Volunteer Details for YCC Summer Camp 2025

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for volunteering for the Youth Cycling Club's 4th Biking Summer Camp, happening tomorrow, July 15th through July 18th, 2025, at Hawk Island Park. We are incredibly excited to host this event, and your dedication and support are what make it possible. We currently have 76 participants registered, and we expect even more to sign up onsite tomorrow!

I’ve put together a spreadsheet with detailed daily activities and volunteer assignments. Please take a moment to review it using the link below.  YCC 2025 Summer Camp Volunteer Sheet. To help ensure each group has the support it needs, I’ve assigned some of our adult riders as ride leaders, as we’re a bit short this year.

Important Reminders

  • All Volunteers: Please arrive at Hawk Island Park by 8:30 AM each day. Help kids check their bikes (air, brakes, and chains), and take a few minutes to chat with them — they’re always excited to connect with you!
  • Ride Leaders: Please review your assigned routes and group members. Each group has a Lead Ride Leader who will be responsible for taking headcounts and making sure all riders stay together during the ride.

Once again, thank you for being a part of this camp. We truly couldn’t do it without you, and I can’t wait to see you all tomorrow!

Thank you for your time,
Arianna

Subject: YCC Kids Biking Summer Camp 2025 – Starts Tuesday, 7/15!

Hi everyone,

We’re really excited to welcome your child to the Youth Cycling Club’s Kids Biking Summer Camp, which begins on Tuesday, July 15th, 2025. We’re just a few days away, and I wanted to share some important information to help make sure the week goes smoothly for everyone.

Pre-Camp Reminders
Each day, please make sure your child comes with:

  • A properly fitting helmet
  • A working bike
  • Sunscreen and bug spray

We strongly recommend having your child’s bike checked beforehand to make sure it’s in safe riding condition. The MSU Bike Shop is a great option if you haven’t already done so. It’s located at Bessey Hall, 434 Farm Ln Room B10, East Lansing, MI 48824.

Arrival and Pickup
Camp will begin and end each day at Hawk Island Park. We’ll be meeting in the open area to the right of the beach and playground, near the pavilion. A map is attached with the area highlighted in red, and we’ll also have bright orange flags to help you find us.

  • Arrival starts at 8:30 AM. We’ll have some light activities like chalk, soccer, and time on the playground while campers check in. Please plan to arrive by 8:50 AM at the latest.
  • Pickup is at 12:00 PM. Please make sure your child is picked up by 12:15 PM.

If you’re not riding with your child, you can let the park gate staff know you're dropping off or picking up a camper so you won’t be charged for parking.

Hawk Island Park address: 1601 E Cavanaugh Rd, Lansing, MI 48910

Camp Schedule

  • Tuesday (7/15): Ride to Valhalla Park and learn about bike safety and riding skills with Lansing Police Officers
  • Wednesday (7/16): Tour the Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University
  • Thursday (7/17): Ride with the Lansing Cycling Club to Benjamin F. Davis Park and learn how to shift gears
  • Friday (7/18): Ride to the State Capitol for a tour and talk with Senator Peters’ Mid-Michigan Regional Coordinator, Joshua Swathwood

Other Details
If your child’s bike needs a few small fixes, feel free to come early on Tuesday around 8:30 AM. We’ll have a few volunteer mechanics available to help.

Right now, the forecast shows possible rain on Wednesday and Thursday. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we’ll have an indoor backup plan so campers can still participate in a meaningful way.

Water bottles, snacks, water, and ice cream will be provided each day, thanks to support from our generous sponsors and community partners.

If your child has any allergies or dietary restrictions, or if you have any questions at all, please let me know.

We’re looking forward to a great week and can’t wait to see everyone on Tuesday!

Have a great day,
Arianna
