Dear Public Service Dept.,
Today on a bike ride along Saginaw Hw across 127, I noticed orange construction barrels blocking my way on the southern sidewalk of the bridge (see attached picture). There are only very few ways for pedestrians or cyclists to cross 127, and this is one of them, but the placement of the orange barrels makes it very difficult and dangerous to navigate. A person with wheelchair would have a very difficult time. I would suggest to remove these barrels when they are not used to block the traffic lane, or leave them in the traffic lane, there is plenty of space. The sidewalk is no place for them!
What really bothers me is the general thoughtlessness of placement of construction signage and barricades. There seems to be no thought whatsoever about pedestrian access or people with disabilities. This is very disappointing.
Thanks and best regards,
Thomas Baumann.

Hi Thomas,
Thank you for your email. Saginaw Avenue is actually under the jurisdiction of MDOT and that agency is who can help with this issue—I believe they have a traffic light project happening there.
I’m sorry I don’t have an email contact, but the phone number of the local Transportation Service Center is 517-335-3754.
