Not sure what the local Lansing Bike Co-op’s plans are for this fall for their bikes for kids giveaway project but just received this about Detroit’s project. Perhaps it could be passed along to the general TCBA membership to see if anyone wants to go help:

Dear Wolverine Sports Club Member (fellow members)
Free Bikes 4 Kidz (FB4K) needs our help in changing a child's life. Think of how awkward moving two or three bikes around in a garage can be. Now picture doing the same for 5,000 bikes!
FB4K needs an army of volunteers to help clean, refurbish, and distribute several thousand used bikes that will be given away to underprivileged children in the Motor City this Fall. Providing a meaningful and rewarding volunteer experience has always been among FB4Kz core values. They strive to match a volunteers' level of technical aptitude with an appropriate task.
Of course, they could simply buy new bikes and give them away, but by utilizing the labor and talent of the community they kill two birds with one stone: salvage bicycles that would have otherwise gone to the landfill and establish a sense of community between a diverse army of volunteers whose efforts help change a child's life forever.
During a (3) hour shift volunteers help clean and repair bicycles in a secure and heated warehouse space near Corktown. Professional mechanics are on hand to guide volunteers through their day. No mechanical skill is necessary to volunteer with us, but it is most certainly welcome. All that is required is a set of work clothes and a positive attitude.
They have 17 different three-hour time blocks per week to accommodate individuals or teams wishing to lend a hand. In order to meet the 2021 goal of 5,000 bikes given away, they need tens of thousands of volunteer man-hours. I encourage you to share this program vocally with all of your friends and family and anyone you know!

FB4K Detroit was incorporated in 2018 and has given away almost 5,000 donated bicycles to underprivileged youth in Detroit since then.
