Good Morning,

I'm preparing my entire monorail collection for sale. Mostly this entails testing all the electronic components - the wires, the two battery boxes, and the four motors. But I'll also run a live motor over each piece of track to make sure it doesn't 'stick'.

BrickRodeo 2022 was the real test for me. Although I encountered a lot of unexpected barriers in getting a MOC ready for BR2022, including tearing down and rebuilding the MOC five times, at no point did I entertain adding monorail to the display. So I don't think I'll really miss it in the years to come, wistful memories notwithstanding.

I admit that monetary woes are a big part of this decision, but I've had since before BR2022 to give it every consideration. My plan is to sell it all in one gulp instead of piecemeal, so BrickLink will not be involved. I've had a run of good luck on eBay of late, so that's where I'll concentrate the sale.

Jeff, you are now the indisputable monorail monarch of the Texas brick clubs (and incidentally, do you still have time these days to do 9V re-wiring?).

Cheers,

- Pat

Pat, will you please update us before bidding goes live where we can find the listing? Do you have an official eBay page? I have a good friend (the man behind BatteryPoweredBricks) who has been collecting monorail bits and pieces for some time now. May I please forward any of this information to him?

Thanks,
Christopher

Pat,
I know this has to be a tough decision.  When you get everything ready to sell, please let us know.  We may be able to save you the eBay fees.  :-)

I am interested in your collection. When will you have an inventory available? Do you have a price in mind?

Christopher, I'll go one better. I'll just take a butt-ton of photos, post them on Flickr, send out a link to them to just Texas groups, and we go from there. Besides, I'd feel better knowing that they're going to Texas AFOL homes (or those of our associates).

I just now got back from CostCo; one of the items purchased were Duracell 9V. None in the house. So let the testing begin.

Incidentally, anyone who has had experience with LEGO monorail knows how badly the wire casing ages. Whoever purchases my stuff, keep hassling Jeff to assist you with refurbishment of the wiring. He knows how to do this; we got a demo at BR2022.

My only caveat: I'd much rather sell the whole thing in one shot, rather than going through the picking-and-choosing hassle, shipping off to various addresses, and chasing after people for payment while I punch my own head in great holiday joy. Thus, I'm perfectly willing to do a spreadsheet of my inventory, but not keeping track of various orders. I've got big bills coming at me fast, and my creditors aren't going to wait for me to pass the plate.

Rebecca, Matt Sailors was kind enough to forward me your communication. I've listed my own email address below if it'll help.

I only have the original Futuron sets but would love the opportunity to add to them.

Pat,

Acknowledged. We understand this can be a tough decision. Wherever your collection goes, someone will enjoy it very much. Thanks for letting us have first knowledge of it.

All,

My friend has very good wiring repair techniques on video at his channel, some specifically for LEGO 9v train/monorail. I hope this can help others, too. Forward to whomever. Thankfully, it is not a complicated task. 😅

We did that in GFLUG when one of the members sold off his extensive train collection.  He had decided he wanted to scale-up his model train hobby and now plays with live steamers (he's a certified welder who is married to an aerospace engineer).

(10) vehicle bogey or wheels assy (2685c01) - Cheapest in U.S. is $17.88 each or total ($178.80) incidentally this is outrageous!!!

(1) long battery box 9V (2847c03) - Cheapest (yellow color) in U.S. is $4.00 each or total ($4.00)
(14) 9V wires, variable length, (from 11 studs to 162 studs), with brick end connectors (??? don't really care about these, given the condition of their casing. I'll throw 'em in.)

*Prices based on BrickLink.com listings sorted by Lowest Price without regard to quantity as of 3PM CST, 9 November 2022.

So, going strictly by the cheapest BrickLink prices in the U.S, total worth of the collection stands at:

$2271.42

Naturally, I don't expect this price for collection, but I would like to come as close as I possibly can. I already have an offer on the table for $1750.
