Because as great as that show is going be, planning a year in advance isn't wrong . . .
If the space in Houston doesn't have convenient power to the middle of the floor, I have a solution. Namely: big honking batteries, meant to replace a generator and power critical services for a whole house for a day. This is better than running extension cords across either public space or interior AFOL space.
We simply cannot get a LOT bigger than the 2022 show without more participating AFOLs. The real limiting factor might not be material,, but setup time. (Bricks Killeen, which has allotted us a HUGE space, will be a good test of how much we can stretch.)

I'm expecting the overall exhibit layout will be similar to 2021. TBRR can easily have the same 20'x40' space as then; probably can go up to 20'x60'. If the layout wants to be something that doesn't fit into that, let me know and I'll take a look at it. Those dimensions are intended to be the stanchion lines, but we might be able to have table edges go up to that.

In 2021 there was a power outlet in the floor within the TBRR space. The hotel said at the time that the floors were going to be redone and the floor outlets removed. I don't know what the current status is; for now, assume there will not be convenient power in the floor.

I think there is some interest in trying a long-skinny layout.
I think we should also consider a smaller layout but with more new MOCs.

Is "long-skinny" more than 60'?  That's pretty long.

If all comes together, we are going to test long and skinny at Bricks Killeen

I don't think we'd have to go more than 60'...That would probably cause problems with the rest of the room.
3 tables deep is 90 inches and enough to do a R120 half circle.
60' can just fit 12 tables lengthwise, so that's an absolute max of 36 tables. We'll need some space for bridges, space to sit, etc.
So a 10x60 could possibly work.

That sounds fine, up to 20' wide x 60' long should be ok if we want more space in the middle (and have the tables to do it). I'll wait and see what happens at Killeen.

Finding more new MOCs to show: thumbs up.
Cutting back the good ones we already display: not so enthusiastic. I think we should be upgrading them!
Reducing the layout size: Where is that "sad" emoji when I need it? Seriously, I hope layout size remains a function of our numbers and enthusiasm, both of which have been trending upward. We just shouldn't think we automatically have to increase size every year; that puts too much strain on the people who are the backbone of the current displays. Let's just continue to encourage our newer members, keep our standard as open and welcoming as we can, and see what that makes possible.

Also: MOAR LIGHTS PLZ

Time to revisit this .. I wasn't at Killeen but I looked at the photos. I think the crossing looks great and would be fun to have - but I also think having the two offset sections might be problematic where we don't have unlimited space. It may be hard to use the full exhibit hall floor space efficiently with that sort of layout. From an event-planning perspective, a simple rectangle would be best if the layout is getting large like this. I'm not saying (yet) that's a requirement, just want it kept in mind.

Anyone else have more thoughts on the Brick Rodeo layout?

I still want to do long and narrow. I think there are ways to make interesting track patterns without having a complicated overall shape.

I like long and narrow too, the offset was purely because we could. 😉

I currently have 20'x60' set aside, I'll keep that for now.

How about a figure-8?  Ballasting a bunch of track at a 45 degree angle would be fun, right?

Back to power. Do we know what our power consumption is? I have a Jackery 1500 which should be able to supply 100 watts for 12 hours. It can be recharged overnight (from mains) then supply another 100watts for 12 hours next day. IT ONLY WEIGHT 40 LBS and it has zero set up time.

Thanks for the offer Gil! Steve has something similar that we used last time. It helps not having to worry about where the outlets are and running extension cords, so having multiple batteries will be useful.

I don't think we've ever calculated the total power consumption of our displays...

Tim has posted the BR 2023 announcement on the LAN forum.
Does anyone object to me posting to welcome collaborations with our layout?  (modules, buildings...come run your train on our layout, etc.)

Continuation of our previous planning thread, but looking for more specifics.

Who is registered (or will register) for Brick Rodeo?

I am pretty sure I am registered already and will do my best to be part of the show in some capacity.

Derik, I don't see you in the list of BR 2023 registrants. If you have a confirmation or are sure you've registered, please email Customer...@brickrodeo.com and Sarah will look into it.

I'm registered and planning to be there.  The only specific that I want to bring is the roundhouse and dropped turntable. Anything else I have can be "as needed."

I am registered. I can bring incidentals and a skating pond (64x64) with snow around it if it is needed for the winter part.  I also have things to set up a Christmas parade (like Macy's) if interested.

Ed,

You know that I’ll be there! I can bring my airport (288x160), Fire Brigade fire station (32x32), and an oil field of pump-jacks (16x32 each, 12-30 jacks). I won’t promise any others until they are built and i know i can bring them.

Thanks,
Christopher

The hotel link is up on the Brick Rodeo website.  It has been there for a couple of months.  The BR block has sold out for many nights at least once.

Just a reminder .. Brick Rodeo is currently holding a 20' x 60' space for TBRR.  If you decide that much isn't needed, please let me know right away and we'll allocate it somewhere else.  Thanks!
