Hi
Thank you for allowing me to join your group.
My name is Gil Villanueva, I have been building LEGO for about 4 years. I took a break and now coming back to the hobby. Building LEGO trains is my favorite LEGO activity. I have a few sets and have built several third party plan cargo cars (all with LEGO parts). Not a master builder so I pretty much need instructions for all I do. I don't have a lot of room at home for a track so I have a very small, circuit  5 x 7 MILS base plates.

Hi Gil,

Welcome!!

There is also a great Lego Train Club called Texas Brick Railroad, can be found here at tb...@googlegroups.com, and also at https://www.facebook.com/groups/TBRR.Austin

Gareth...that's us!
LOL

Anyway, there is an internal Facebook page if you use Facebook, but the official discussions happen here.

Which 3rd party plans have you built?
Most of us would like (but don't actually have) a home layout.
Do you have Flickr or another photo gallery?

We don't really have events left for this year (maybe a small event after Thanksgiving).
But next year is looking pretty busy! You can just bring trains to run at events if you'd like. You can also contribute parts of the layout - just post on the planning thread for each individual event, once they are started.

I am pro train and pro train accessories.

Welcome!  Always great to see new folks.  Indont have my own home layout, so I only get to play with my trains at our events.  I look forward to seeing your stuff.

I bought a house so I can have a train layout.

I built a covered gondola, bathtub gondola and some tankers from Brick Train Depot

Ten years ago, I bought a house with an out building that was supposed to be my LEGO workshop.  That still hasn't happened.  I did spend $$$ on some of my other expensive hobbies that get to live in the house.

I would also like to introduce myself.  My name is Dorian, I also live in San Antonio.  I have been collecting the City PF and PU train sets for a couple of years now (starting with 60051).  This year I have decided to step up my game and am working on ballasting and MILSing my winter village.  I really enjoyed seeing your layout at the New Braunfels Train Show a few weeks ago, and look forward to learning from y'all!

Since I just started ballasting and after looking at the TBRR display I have decided to change my sleepers from Reddish brown to black

There's nothing saying you couldn't keep your brown sleepers/ties as-is.  We can mix and match at shows no problem.

Real world track isn't uniform in color.

Opinions differ  :)  If you want to change your ties to black, I'll applaud, because I think it looks better . . . but yes, brown ones could be displayed!

I think black would look more cohesive

Changing to black sleepers it is

Awaiting my Tx22X controller and MR603b receivers  from England - yes I am dipping my toes in the RC side of LEGO trains. I did order two MR603bs from a US distributor and they arrived but alas they are no good to me without the controller to start experimenting. So not much advantage in getting those early. I got them pre-wired with JST connector for the battery and for motor (clean leads) .

I have already learned a lot from this group. Gareth has been very helpful guiding me on my RC set-up.

Thank you all very much

Gil V.
