Hi guys,
Please see the email below.
Joseph told me that can't make it to the next initiation meetings (the "icebreaker" meetings) because of Glee Club hell week. He said he could come for part of a session.
I was thinking we ask him to come for the first half hour and also ask him to do 2 hours of community service as a make-up.
Thoughts?

Thanks for the details, Justin. I figured out the conflict now. It will be right in the middle of the technical week for the Glee Club show, which will be a huge commitment for me as I am the Business Manager for the Club.
If it is possible to drop in for a short while at one of the meetings, that would help a lot!

Hi Justin,
2 hours of community service is no problem (I have already been informally tutoring someone for CIS 262 for an hour a week).
I will also be able to make the dues payment and the Dec 11 initiation session.
However, our Tech week schedule has just come out and I realize that I am not fully positive that I will be able to make it to any of the initiation sessions. The second one is definitely out, since we have a show on Thursday night. The first one may or may not be possible, but seeing as our Full Dress rehearsal is currently taking place at exactly that time, it would be pretty irresponsible for me to come to the initiation session, even for 30min.
Is there any way I can be briefed about the necessary details without coming to either session?

Hi Joseph,
I am sorry to hear that the dates for the sessions are causing you such a problem.
Unfortunately, at least partial attendance at the session is mandatory for initiation. Since the session is meant to be an "icebreaker meeting" for initiates and the board, there is no way to brief you on the details afterwards. Normally, by not attending, candidates forfeit their invitation.
However, since you let me know so early, I can put you on a list of "deferred" candidates (i.e. people who are abroad and people who cannot make it to initiation). You will be automatically invited back next semester, and you will be initiated in the spring.
You do not have to let me know now whether or not you will make the icebreaker session. If you do not attend, please email me to remind me to put you on the deferred list.
I hope you find this to be an acceptable solution.
