Hi all,
I'm addressing this email to 5 of you specifically plus myself but
also to communityfoodgrowers gmail group as well as its posting to the
transitionbrentford organising google group (which is where I'm
sending it to/from).
I don't therefore know exactly who will receive it but presumably some
of us will receive 3 copies?
I'm a little concerned (think Naomi and others are too) that the
Transition Brentford communications process has got a little
confusing. Does anyone follow this google 'tborganising' group? Who
follows/uses communityfoodgrowers group? Who will receive this
'email'?
Our 'contacts' page on the website:
http://transitionbrentford.wordpress.com/contacts/
gives these two groups (above) and TWO MORE (google and yahoo).
Some of these were/are set up for specific (other?) purposes (eg.
'organising') but in most cases it is not readily apparent who you are
communicating with.
There may be some advantage in using one or more mailing groups for
'sign up' purposes but does it need to be this complicated? Whilst
'privacy' may be relevant for some purposes the 'sender' has no
privacy if they don't know who is receiving the email.
A contact list (perhaps with other relevant details where appropriate)
could be maintained by each or one of us (on a proper email client
rather than wretched webmail??) and emails sent bcc where necessary.
(That way the sender knows who is receiving the email but the email
addresses are not released to every receiver).
(This way on the other hand - with this google organising group -
there is no clear bcc option, anyone receiving can presumably see cc?
and yet I as sender can't immediately see who else is receiving the
email - a stupid idea in my opinion though it may have its uses).
(As a potential Apple Mail user, if anyone knows of a better email
client than my ten year old Outlook Express would they let me know -
Apple Mail isn't better).
A meeting is proposed (by Andrew D) for 23 or 24 January or
alternatively (more notice to more people?) for mid-February (from
13th? - Wed or Thur 15-16?).
Please let me/us know which would be better: possible agenda:
Communications!
Constitution (because we need one?/have a nearly there draft)
Where do we go from here?/Relationship with Syon Lane (and other local
groups?)
Public meetings and issues?
