The Mad Rascal is a drink you might not have heard of before because I made it up! It all started when I was bartending at a wedding and we had a couple bottles of whiskey at the bar, which of course led to some lady ordering a whiskey sour. What we didn't have was any sort of sour mix, but not wanting to disappoint a lady I improvised by mixing Jack Daniels with cranberry juice, orange juice, and a bit of Rose's sweetened lime juice. I threw in a lime and a cherry and handed it off with a smile. I knew I had a hit when the same lady came back for three more raving that it was the best whiskey sour she'd ever had.
If you're familiar with mixed drinks you'll recognize that this recipe is very similar to a Madras which calls for vodka, cranberry juice, and orange juice. I named it by turning Madras into Mad Rascal which seems more appropriate for a whiskey drink. Since it's made up you can feel free to call it whatever you want. This is a drink that can't help but taste good, but play around with the proportions to find your ideal mix. The steps are as follows:
1. Fill an 8-12 oz glass to the brim with cubed ice.
2. Add 2-3 oz of whiskey - the original was made with Jack Daniels, but you can use a Canadian whiskey for a smoother drink or whatever you have handy - this drink really isn't about the flavor of the whiskey...sorry.
3. Add equal parts orange and cranberry juice until glass is almost full.
4. Top off with Rose's sweetened lime juice (available at any grocery)
5. To mix & chill pour into a mixing glass, swish it around and pour back into the serving glass.
6. Garnish with whatever fresh fruit you have handy and enjoy!
A new player has entered the spirits market, challenging the status quo and redefining the ready-to-drink (RTD) spirits scene. Rascal is not your average alcoholic beverage. It is a first-of-its-kind libation that marries the art of well-crafted cocktails with the refreshment of summer sodas, delivering a remarkable punch.
The beverages, launched in November 2023, are manufactured and marketed by Great Galleon Ventures, based in Madhya Pradesh. Thus, Rascal has made its first appearance in the state, encompassing major cities such as Indore, Bhopal, and Gwalior, and plans to expand its presence to crucial metro cities nationwide.
GGVL's cutting-edge Dhar manufacturing facility near Indore features its newly established RTD lines, boasting a monthly capacity of 60,000 cases for both pints and cans. With an FSSAI-certified, zero-discharge plant, GGVL exemplifies an unwavering dedication to ensuring quality and sustainability.
Rascal was conceived by Suramya Kedia, who identified a gap in the market for fun, convenient, and well-crafted alternatives to beer. With Indians increasingly seeking diverse and quality RTD beverages, Suramya turned to her family business, which boasts over 35 years of experience in brewing and distilling.
As Rascal enters the market for ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages, it brings with it an exciting fusion of flavors and expertise and a dedication to producing innovative beverages that are well-suited to the rapidly evolving demographics and lifestyles of Indian consumers. With a focus on creativity, quality, and consumer satisfaction, Rascal is set to make a significant mark in the rapidly evolving landscape of alcoholic beverages.

"Students are always talking to us about the squirrels on The Green, and honestly the images of the squirrels just made me laugh," said Helen Ann Lawless, Director of Strategic Wellbeing & Training, Interim Director of Student Wellness and Health Promotion. "We want students to understand that the majority of their peers are socializing responsibly and that they can still have fun while being safe too. I think students will love Rascal as a mascot for these messages."

The children live in the Bleak Hill boarding school, whose ghastly old headmistress constantly punishes and berates them. As they wake up one morning, having improvised a variety of methods to keep warm in their beds, she orders them to get to their chores or face a beating and no breakfast. Her husband, the kindly old Cap, serves as the children's schoolteacher. He promises them that once his back pension comes in, he will take them away from the school so they can all live well.
The children milk a cow using a vacuum cleaner, but their dog Pete knocks over the bucket. To avoid punishment, they mix powdered plaster of Paris into a bucket of water so that the headmistress will think it is milk. At breakfast, they pass the word among themselves not to drink the milk, making up an excuse that it has spoiled. When Spanky innocently tells the headmistress, she scolds the children and orders them to put the milk on their mush and eat it. The plaster quickly sets up, leaving them with slabs of plaster and mush in their bowls and stuck on their spoons.
Cap leads the children through a class session of humorously inaccurate questions and answers, then has them put on an impromptu talent show that culminates in Tommy belting out a rendition of "Just Friends" with adult-oriented lyrics. Spanky answers a telephone call during class; it is Mr. Brown, the bank manager, who wants to speak to Cap. Following a comical exchange, Mr. Brown gets Spanky to put Cap on the line and tells him that his back pension has come in, totaling nearly $4,000. Cap, ecstatic, treats the children to an amusement park visit, a wide variety of toys, and dinner at a fancy French restaurant. He orders a meal for everyone, not knowing exactly what it is. The food turns out to be mush, which Cap disgustedly throws in the waiter's face.
Anyway, back to South London. On a muggy August evening in a back garden in Dulwich, with the rain clouds hovering around like a wasp at a picnic, we set about drinking and ranking the IPAs of South London, which are, in alphabetical order:
We then tasted all the beers. It was hard work, but we managed to soldier on through it. With some trepidation, we totted up the scores, drew up a table of beers, and then matched up the codes for the big reveal. From bottom to top, the results are as follows.
Whether it's the June 11 mass shooting in Orlando or the U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage, "or any other major event in my life," Harper said, "the first place you think of coming is here, to be with your family and friends."
