In Chemistry, students are using Alka-Seltzer tablets to explore the fascinating world of gas laws. Alka-Seltzer contains citric acid, sodium bicarbonate, and aspirin. While these ingredients are pressed together in solid form and remain stable in the package, they begin to react once the tablet is added to water. As the particles become more mobile, the sodium bicarbonate and citric acid react to produce carbon dioxide gas, this is the effect students observe during the experiment.
During the lab, students measure mass and temperature to calculate how much gas is produced and determine its volume. This hands-on investigation helps them better understand the behavior and properties of gases, which is what they are currently learning about. Beyond the chemistry concepts, students also connect their learning to real life by discussing how Alka-Seltzer works to relieve an upset stomach.
Experiences like this chemistry lab highlight the curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world connections that keep our students engaged and growing through the final weeks of the year. Even as spring brings warmer weather and the anticipation of the end of the school year, meaningful learning continues in our classrooms every day.
This evening, we look forward to celebrating our seniors at Senior Awards Night. It will be a special opportunity to recognize 175 members of the Class of 2026 for their athletic and academic achievements. I am excited to honor their hard work and to celebrate this important milestone with students and families.

Plans for iPads this summer
This summer, Spring Lake Park Schools' families with students in grades 1-11 will be able to keep their school-issued iPad at home. Kindergarten iPads will stay at school and those students will receive their iPads when they return for 1st grade in the fall.
For families of grade 1-11 students, if you prefer the school hold the iPad over the summer, please fill out the form in your school's front office. Grade 1-11 students who take their iPad home with them for the summer have the opportunity to use their iPad for additional learning and resources and are expected to return with it for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Graduating seniors: Seniors who are graduating from Spring Lake Park Schools district after this school year need to turn in their school-issued iPad, case and Apple charger. Seniors will return their technology on Thursday, May 28 during graduation rehearsal. All seniors need to return iPads by June 5 to avoid fees.
- Students not returning next school year: Students and families who will not be enrolled for the 2026-2027 school year should turn in their iPad, case and Apple charger to their home school office, or the District Services Center at 1415 81st Ave NE, Spring Lake Park, MN 55432.
- 1st, 5th and 9th grade iPad replacement: Students entering 1st, 5th and 9th grade for the 2026-2027 school year will receive a new iPad, case and charger. Watch for further communications this summer for an exchange date.

Outstanding School Fees: How to pay through Campus Parent Portal
As we near the end of the 2025-2026 school year, we ask that families pay any outstanding fees they may have acquired throughout the school year. Fees could range from technology to library books and music fees. To check if your family has any outstanding fees and to pay for the fees, login to Campus Parent Portal and click on "Fees" located in the left-hand black
column.

Medications in the Health Office
Medications that are kept in the health office will be sent home with your student in the next few weeks. If you prefer to pick up you student’s medication, please connect with the health office. Controlled medications, such as ADHD medications, must be picked up by a parent/guardian. A nurse will reach out to you to arrange a pick up time.

Students Stepping Up at Track & Field Day!
Our concurrent enrollment ARCC Health and Sport Performance juniors played an important role in making this year’s 4th grade Track & Field Day a success! The students helped run field events throughout the event, doing a fantastic job leading activities, encouraging younger students and keeping events running smoothly.
One of the highlights of the day was an inflatable costume race featuring four student representatives from each elementary school!

College Possible: Class of 2027 and 2028
Students in the Class of 2027 and 2028 who want support in planning for college and who have a least a 2.5 GPA and can demonstrate their financial need are encouraged to apply to College Possible. Students can stop by B138 the Career & College Center and see Ms. Blaido for help applying or apply now for College Possible.

Upward Bound Application: Class of 2029
The Upward Bound Application is now open for current 9th grade students. Is your student interested in attending college after high school? Would they be the first in your family to attend college? Does your family qualify for free or reduced-price lunch?
If so, your student may be eligible for Upward Bound and should contact their school counselor for an eligibility form. The program offers college prep, tutoring, college visits and support through high school and college. Many Minnesota colleges also offer scholarships to participating students.

Congratulations to our SLP retirees!
Spring Lake Park Schools held its annual retirement reception event on May 12 to honor and recognize the staff members who retired during the 2025-2026 school year or are retiring at the end of the school year.
School board members, administrators, principals, staff members, former employees and family members of retiring staff gathered for the celebration. Tony Easter, school board chair, led a brief program with Superintendent Jeff Ronneberg who presented each honoree in attendance with a commemorative school bell award recognizing their service and commitment to the district.
As a learning community, we recognize their tremendous contributions to our schools and celebrate their next steps. The honorees were invited to share information about themselves - enjoy reading their personal remembrances and future plans.

Youth Athletics & Activities Expo, May 27
Join us for an in-person opportunity for K-12 families to collect information on a wealth of activities, athletics, and clubs available to youth in our district through our schools and community organizations. Come visit, ask questions and engage with fun, interactive booths. Some organizations may offer registration opportunities on the spot.
