February 18, 2026 - NEWSLETTER

Panther Families,

Congratulations to the Spring Lake Park / Centennial Girls’ hockey team on winning the section title Friday evening! This exciting victory sends them to the Class AA Girls Hockey Quarterfinals, where they’ll play again on Thursday evening. Be sure to check today’s newsletter for game details and ways to support the team.

With the girls’ hockey team heading to the quarterfinals, we are making a few adjustments to our conference plan for tomorrow, Thursday, February 19. We want to make sure anyone who would like to has an opportunity to attend the game. We will continue to have in-person conferences from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 19. We will add times next Thursday, February 26. For families who have scheduled time tomorrow evening, 7-8 p.m., please be in communication with the teacher(s) to see if they still plan to have conferences. See full details below.

Last week, I had the pleasure of listening to senior Mubarek Wayu share an experience he had through our local Rotary Club. Mubarek was sponsored to attend Camp Enterprise in Washington D.C., an immersive three-day experience where students engage with business leaders, develop entrepreneurial ideas, and pitch them in a Shark Tank–style presentation. It was a great morning.

What stood out most in Mubarek’s conversation with the local club was the closing conversation, when Rotary members asked Mubarek about his future aspirations. With confidence and conviction, he shared, “I want to work in international business.” When we talk about inspiring students, Mubarek exemplified that inspiration in a powerful and authentic way.

Looking ahead, I hope you’re planning to participate in Panthers for a Purpose: Week of Giving, which kicks off next Monday. It promises to be a week full of pride, generosity, and fun, so get ready for the dress-up days and be sure to check out all the ways to get involved!

Proud to be a Panther,

Megan Jahnke

High School Registration: What's next

Registration for the 2026-2027 school year closed last Friday for our current 8-11 grade students. While this initial registration window is closed, we still have a few checkpoints before next year:

  • Week of March 30: A confirmation of course choices for 2026-2027 is sent to homes. Students and families can check the choices and make adjustments as needed.
  • August: Students receive their final schedules. This usually happens the week before school begins. Schedules are posted in Campus and available at a Back to School event at the high school.

If your family has any questions, please reach out to your student's counselor.

Quiet Heroes of a Cold Week

When wind chills plunged near 30 below zero in late January, Spring Lake Park Schools’ custodial teams were already at work behind the scenes. From monitoring boilers and switching heating systems to checking for frozen pipes and clearing icy sidewalks before sunrise, these dedicated professionals ensured our buildings were warm, safe and ready when students returned.

Meet Head Custodians Guy Quick and Joy Nelson and learn how their teams’ expertise, teamwork and care for students keep our schools running - even in extreme conditions.
