Dear Panther Parents,
We cannot wait to have your students with us in the high school. Teachers have been busy getting spaces and classrooms ready to welcome students to this new year of school. On August 11, we welcomed well over 650 student athletes to the high school for fall sports (cross county, dance, football, boys’ and girls’ soccer, girls’ swimming and diving, girls’ tennis, and girls’ volleyball). Our hallways are starting to fill with excitement for a new year.
This week, we welcome our new staff members to the team. Please take a moment to get to know the educators who are joining us this year—they bring a wealth of talent, passion, and excitement for supporting our students.

As a reminder, class schedules will be available on Wednesday, August 20. Families are invited to join us for our Meet and Greet on Tuesday, August 26 anytime between 3-7 p.m. This is a wonderful chance to meet with teachers, explore classrooms, touch base with a counselor and start building school relationships.
Phones and Smart Watches: Before the year begins, we want to highlight our expectations for cell phone use. Students are expected to not have their cell phones out in the classroom. Thank you for helping us create a focused and distraction-free learning environment.
Parent-Principal Connect: Once a month, I will be hosting a WebEx meeting for parents and guardians to talk about happenings in the high school along with inviting a guest to talk about important topics. My first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 24 at 3:30 p.m. Topics will include direct admission and early decision for college choices for our seniors. While these are senior-focused topics, it’s not to early to start thinking about this for any high school family. Please continue to watch for this opportunity each month.
September 17 - Curriculum Night, NHS:
- We will be hosting Curriculum Night on September 17, 5:30-7:30 p.m. It is a great time to connect with teachers around what students are learning and check in on the first few weeks of school.
- National Honors Society Induction ceremony will also take place on September 17, 6-8 p.m. If you received an acceptance letter in the spring, you are included in this ceremony.
If you have any questions as we get closer to the first day of school, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We hope you are enjoying these last days of summer and look forward to welcoming our students and families back very soon!

For 9th grade families: iPad replacement at Meet and Greet on Aug. 26
As a reminder, our incoming 9th grade students will be receiving new school-issued iPads during the SLPHS 9th grade Meet and Greet on Tuesday, August 26, 3-7 p.m. Please plan for this so your student's iPad is set up and ready to go for the new school year.
Bring your current school-owned iPad, case, charger, and cord to Meet and Greet. If any data is needed off the current iPad prior to the replacement, please review the backup instructions. If you cannot make the Meet and Greet, iPad replacement will be available once school starts.

Health office updates for back to school
- School medications: You are welcome and encouraged to bring in any necessary medications for your student to keep at school during next week's Meet and Greet. Our health office will be available to answer questions during this event. If you would like to drop off medications outside of Meet and Greet, please set up a time with our nurse, Jill Larson 763-600-5104 or Donna Dyson 763-600-5204.
- Immunizations and vaccines: Now is the time to make sure your child is up to date on all recommended immunizations. Getting vaccinated is an important tool to keep our students safe and healthy while they are in school. See our website for more immunization information.
- Peanut/nut aware classrooms: Spring Lake Park Schools implements peanut and nut-aware practices to protect students with severe allergies. Avoid sending snacks containing nuts or nut products and to ensure all snacks are pre-packaged for safety checks. Learn more.
- Communicate illnesses: Update the school nurse if your child tests positive for a communicable illness such as flu, RSV (Respiratory Syncitial Virus), or COVID-19. The nurse will provide information on return to school. Keep your child home if they are sick.
- Communication home: Our school nurse will call home in case of serious illness or injury, or if consultation with a parent/guardian is needed. Many times, students can return to class after a brief rest or treatment from the nurse.

Nutrition Services: School meal updates for a new year
- Breakfast and lunch meals: Each student will continue to get one breakfast and one lunch free of charge each day at school. View school lunch menus.
- Purchase of additional food items: During lunch, students have the option to purchase additional food items (second milk, extra entree, bottled water, etc.) if they have funds in their account. You can add funds to a meal account through Campus Parent Portal, or by sending cash or check with your child or directly to your school. If you do not want
your student to purchase additional items, please complete this form and email it to foods...@district16.org.
- Educational Benefits Application: Each year, we ask families to complete an Educational Benefits application. Many families are often surprised they qualify, and you could be eligible for many great benefits that help your student and our schools. Applications have arrived in family mailboxes. You can also learn more and apply online. Please
note, if your family has already received an approval letter for the 2025-2026 school year, you do not need to re-apply for educational benefits.

Printed district calendar update
All families should have received a printed district calendar in the mail this month. If your family does not use it or have a need for it - rather than throwing it away - we ask that you please consider returning to the District Services Center main office (1415 81st Ave. NE). There is a bin there to place it in and we will repurpose and reuse!
We’ve also noticed a few calendars were assembled incorrectly. If yours has any errors and you’d like a correct copy, just contact our main office—we’ll gladly swap it out for you.

Thanks to the high school Construction Trades program in collaboration with Housing First MN, this month a mother and her two children in need moved into their new home—made warm, welcoming and officially theirs by generous volunteers and community donations! Read more about the completed project.

Levy 2025: Find information online
Last week, the school board took action to place an operating levy referendum question on the ballot this fall. See the message sent to families last Wednesday. There will be opportunities throughout the fall to get more information and answers to any questions you may have.
Use Springlakeparkschools.org/levy2025 as your information source. We want our community to be well-informed and prepared to vote - on or before November 4, 2025.

Get Ready to "Start Your Engines"
The 4th Annual "Start Your Engines" Big Trucks, Food Trucks & Automobiles event is Saturday, September 13, 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Spring Lake Park High School. This family/community event will feature a variety of exhibits with engines – think big trucks, automobiles, and recreational vehicles. Lunch from the food trucks will be available for purchase. The event is free to attend, and no registration is required - just show up.
