Panther Families,
I walked past the culinary arts classroom the other day and was immediately greeted by the sweet smell of homemade caramel. There is just something about that smell that makes you stop for a moment. Students were making Tres Leches cakes, and they looked absolutely divine. If you have a student in Culinary, ask them about their experience.
Our students continue to impress in so many different ways. Last week, 17 students submitted artwork to the Minnesota State High School League Art Competition. Special congratulations go to Anna Pho and Nora Laufenberg. Anna’s digital photography piece and Nora’s painting, “The Flight of the Barn Owl,” earned Spotlight recognition. This distinction means a judge selected their work as a favorite among all pieces entered in the competition. This is an incredible accomplishment. Congratulations to all of our students who shared their art. I am proud of moments like this that remind me of the incredible talent and creativity in our students.
We also celebrated our third Signing Day of the year, where 21 students signed letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. The Panther Gym was filled with parents, family members, friends, teammates, teachers, and coaches, all gathered to celebrate years of hard work and dedication. As our Athletic Director, Will Wackman, always says, “This is a day that fills your bucket with pride.” It truly does.
Prom is quickly approaching on May 9 at the Hollywood Theatre. It is always one of those special evenings that students remember long after high school. Prom is a chance to celebrate, make memories, and enjoy time together.

Prom is around the corner on May 9
Prom will be held at the Hollywood Theater in Minneapolis on Saturday, May 9, 7-11 p.m. Beverages, snacks and desserts will be available throughout the evening.
Non-SLPHS attendees must fill out a Prom dance form due Wednesday, May 6 no later than 3 p.m. All guests need to attend with a current SLPHS 11th or 12th grade student. Forms can be found in the main office.

Why Students Are Rethinking Spending, Saving—and Subway
At Spring Lake Park High School, one sophomore already has his future mapped out - retiring at 50 with a million dollars in the bank.
It might sound ambitious, but in the Personal Finance and Money Management course, students aren’t just dreaming about the future - they’re planning for it.
From tracking their own spending (including some surprising fast-food habits) to learning how savings accounts, interest rates and budgeting really work, students are gaining skills they’re already using in real life. Some are moving money into savings for the first time. Others are rethinking how - and where - they spend.
“It made me realize I spend a little too much, a little too often,” one student shared after tracking his expenses. Another added, “Now I actually understand what I’m doing with my money.”
Through hands-on activities, real-world simulations and honest conversations about money, this required course is helping students build confidence, and habits, that will last long after high school.
