Panther Families,
I’d like to take a moment to celebrate an outstanding achievement by one of our students. Senior Sam Kretschmar, our defending Math League State Champion, successfully defended his title on Monday and is once again the State Champion - an incredible accomplishment! To give some perspective on the level of thinking involved, Math League students aren’t just solving problems, they are often required to develop the formulas needed to solve them. This speaks volumes about the depth of understanding and creativity involved.
I also had the opportunity to visit a health classroom this week where students were engaged in thoughtful discussions about the positive and negative impacts of social media on youth. It was great to see students researching, collaborating and working to understand the complexities of this topic. Experiences like these highlight the importance of critical thinking and open dialogue in today’s learning environment.
As we move past this weekend, we enter an important stretch of consistent five-day school weeks. This spring learning period is a crucial time for student growth and progress. Regular attendance during this time makes a significant difference, and we appreciate your support in ensuring students are present and engaged.
Our final conference opportunity of the year will take place on Thursday, April 9. This is a valuable chance to connect with your child’s teachers, ask questions and review progress as we head into the final months of the school year.
As a reminder, there will be no school for students this Friday, April 3, as it is a professional learning day for our staff.
Proud to be a Panther,
Megan Jahnke

Paraprofessionals Meet Students Where They Are
A day at school rarely unfolds exactly as planned. Schedules, lessons, and routines are in place – but within minutes plans can shift. A student may arrive overwhelmed. Another might need encouragement to step off the bus. A third could surprise everyone with an unexpected breakthrough. School staff understand this is part of the job. No one knows that better than a paraprofessional.
Across the district, paraprofessionals (often called paras) form a vital backbone of student support. They work in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds and specialized learning spaces. Their specific titles vary from behavior paras, center-based paras, and functional paras, but their mission is shared: meet students where they are and help them grow.
“What sets our paraprofessionals apart isn’t just what they do, it’s how they do it,” says Kaline Sandven Marinello, Director of Special Education and Student Support Services. “They meet students exactly where they are with patience, respect and an unwavering belief in their potential. We can teach many of the technical skills of the role, but we cannot replicate the life experiences, care and compassion our paraprofessionals bring.”
Read the full story and hear firsthand from paras about their experiences in our schools.
