Sarah & friends,
I did see the photo on facebook and I totally agree, as an advocate of nonviolence, that this is inappropriate. However, it is equally unfair to "demonize" just one religion over a common practice done by not a few Nations- states, that may be predominantly Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim and/or of other faith expressions, of "Christening" missiles, warships and other weapons of death with biblical or scriptural text and icons. Even
within our Catholic faith, there are those who question these practice but then, we just continue to debate on it. Let us hope that the photo draws our leaders to come out with some stronger guidance on such practice. Many years back, I remember a recording by Richard Harris expressing... "There are too many savior to my cross..." The disappointment continuous.
To draw up some parallels, there are also liberation movements, inspired by extremist tendencies and interpretations within their faith expression, who do not hesitate to call on the name of their Supreme Being to justify
killing or maiming innocent civilians in acts of religious fanaticism, that established orders call terrorism.
