Dear Friends,

Greetings of peace!

Here's sharing with you (below) the 3-minute video clip on YouTube which gives a glimpse of the relationship between the Muslims and Christians in the grassroots community of Barangay 188, Phase 12, Rivershide in Tala, Caloocan City. This is the pilot community of The Peacemakers' Circle in Metro Manila. We  have been engaged in the endeavor of building relationships of mutual respect, understanding and cooperation between Muslims and Christians in that community for almost a decade since 2003.

Today, there are three groups of Muslim-Christian Peacemakers in Tala--two of them are composed of community elders who work closely with each other as one group (though they had to split into two batches for the DSWD SEA-K micro-finance training program). The third group is composed of youth leaders who are currently helping their elders; they are themselves undergoing leadership training for community peacebuilding (through their representatives) with The Peacemakers' Circle under the Australian Embassy's Strengthening Grassroots Interfaith Dialogue and Understanding (SGIDU) program. The Peacemakers' Circle has been serving the grassroots communities for four years under the SGIDU program.

The two groups of Muslim and Christian elders have been benefiting from the Department of Social Welfare and Development's Self-Employment and Assistance-Kaunalaran (DSWD SEA-K) since 2008. Because they were able to pay up their first-level loan in only five months instead of twelve, they became a "model community" for the SEA-K program in the area. One group had recently been awarded a second level of micro-financing of 1.32 million pesos for their micro-enterprises. They have also been able to more than double the seed funds which they received from the SGIDU program last year.

We at The Peacemakers Circle are humbled by the lessons we have learned from our journey with them for almost a decade, and we look forward to carrying on and likewise help other grassroots Muslim-Christian communities in Metro Manila, in Mindanano, and elsewhere in the country grow in the spirit of mutual respect, understanding and cooperation and build capacities for promoting peace, justice, prosperity and all good in their locales in the years to come.

Once again, thank you for your patience and kind attention. Most of all, thank you for your friendship, inspiration, and support!

Sincerely,

Marites

maritesafrica has shared a video with you on YouTube:

This digital video was shot within 2 hours and edited in a day. There was not enough time to go through pre-production, location check, or even to prepare a storyboard...only the innate sensitivity to the actual story unfolding in the particular community itself and the trained instinct to shoot with editing in mind to tell a holistic story in images, or visual terms. This is an accommodation for a funding institution's request for us to submit (within less than a week!) a 1-2 minute video clips on the programs and activities of The Peacemakers' Circle re Muslim-Christian unity in communities, that they want to include in their 20-minute documentary on the programs they are supporting worldwide.

Marites Africa, founder and Executive Director of Peacemakers' Circle, decided to focus on their project in the grassroots community of Tala in Caloocan City, Metro Manila where the Muslims and Christians have been inspired by The Peacemakers' Circle (a non-profit in... more
