Hi all,

Some of you may have seen David Shorthouse's anouncement that he is going to switch off SimpleMappr https://docs.google.com/document/d/19_0s1a9Q9M9ZGN7RJHm9PF4xO8nhAfFCVTyxgzGt3As/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.362lf0sz4uey Obviously not an easy decisoion for him to take, and sadly yet more evidence of the fragility of a lot of taxonomic infrastructure (as also evidence by what happened to this list).

I don't use SimpleMappr, but I know lots of people do, and so I wondereed how easy it would be to create a new version (based on David's code) that could be hosted either on a central site or on people's own computers?

Short answer is that it is "easy", so long as your definition of "easy" includes (a) getting Claude Code to do the bulk of the work, and (b) ignoring most of the more sophistciated features of David's app.

I am working towards a release of a bare-bones version of SimpleMappr and was wondering if there are any users on here who would be interested in taking it for a spin and giving feedback? If people here know of other places I could message regarding testing and feedback, that would also be useful. For example, I've discovered that there are a bunch of people on iNaturalist that use it.

Regards,

Rod

Doh! Just realised that I didn't include the link to the site: https://simplemappr.cloud

Feedback welcome, especially if via Github https://github.com/rdmpage/simplemappr-dkr/issues
