Critique of ancestral state reconstruction

All,

I have a new paper published in Diversity that critiques of ancestral state reconstruction and character mapping: https://doi.org/10.3390/d18070433.  Phylogenetic hypotheses produced by both methods are scientifically invalid. Included is my updated thinking on the nature of taxa (including species) as abductively-inferred explanatory hypotheses and the importance of the requirement of total evidence.
