Fungal higher taxonomy cracks on apace

Dear all,

For those who (like me) pay less attention fo Fungi than we otherwise might, doing a "catch up" of newer fungal names (at genus level and above) for my "IRMNG" database over the last year or two reveals that the mycologists have been rather busy - e.g. 391 new FAMILIES since 2020 (actually I still have some 30 more to enter, so the total will be >400, 2020 to early 2026) which is a bit of a surprise to me at least, being more familiar in general with higher plants and animals where the erection of new families and higher taxonomic ranks is a lot less common (I think... must check now!)

The present IRMNG search result for rank=family, authority contains ", 202", belongs to "Fungi" starts like this ... clicking on any linked name provides access to the relevant additional information as presently held in the database. More to do, of course, but I thought this might be of some wider interest among this community. I am guessing that molecules rule (for fungi at least) and also that there seems to be no shortage of activity in this space!
