Hi Ralph,
Tenants living with rats and mold.
Elevators broken for weeks at a time.
Violations closed before they're fixed because of false reporting.
These are just a few themes that emerged from the Rental Ripoff Hearings, which gave NYC renters — 70% of our population — a chance to share with Mayor Mamdani and the Mayor's Office to Protect Tenants (MOPT) some of the struggles they face in their homes.
As we continue our work to educate tenants, homeowners, and small landlords, we’re heading to East Harlem, Flatbush, and Washington Heights to speak with renters about their right to get organized as a tenant union — and invite them to learn more at our next series of NYC 101s: The Power of Organized Tenants.
Join us next week to Talk To Tenants and start empowering all NYC renters!

Join us to Talk to Tenants!
When renters form a tenant union in their buildings, they can more easily win repairs and improvements directly from their landlords, prevent illegal evictions, and have a coordinated voice in shaping policy that impacts housing across the city.
It’s time we come together with our neighbors and other tenants to improve housing conditions across the city, because an organized tenant is a protected tenant.
Thank you for helping build the city we deserve, block by block.
See you on the doors,
The Mayor’s Office of Mass Engagement
