Sutton Running for South Brooklyn Senate Seat
in May 20th Special Election

Brooklyn, NY – As the May 20 Special Election for New York State Senate District 22 approaches, and Early Voting is underway, Democratic nominee Sam Sutton keeps gaining strong momentum: announcing today a growing coalition of prominent elected officials and community leaders who say he is the right choice to represent South Brooklyn’s diverse and vibrant communities in District 22. (SD 22 encompasses all or parts of Borough Park, Midwood, Madison, Homecrest, Gravesend, Gerritsen Beach, Sheepshead Bay, and Marine Park)
Sutton, a longtime nonprofit executive and respected leader within Brooklyn’s Sephardic Jewish community, is widely considered the frontrunner in the race to fill the vacant seat left by former State Senator Simcha Felder, and is competing against a Republican nominee for the position.
If elected, Sutton would make history as the first Sephardic Jewish member of the New York State Senate.

“Sam Sutton has been a fixture in our community, fighting to expand healthcare access, support working families, and uplift vulnerable New Yorkers for decades,” said Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair and Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, who wholeheartedly endorsed Sam. “Sutton's senatorial nomination was unanimous—and for good reason. Sam is a consensus-builder, a champion for equity, and an ardent leader who brings both dedication and competence to the table.”
The Brooklyn Democratic Party overwhelmingly endorsed Sutton, following his unanimous nomination from the required quorum of Committee Members from Senate District 22 on April 17.
