I’ll be blunt: Albany is failing Bed-Stuy.
We New Yorkers live in the financial capital of the wealthiest country in the history of the world. So why doesn't it feel that way in Bed-Stuy? Every week another family is forced out of the neighborhood we love because groceries, rent, and childcare are just too expensive.
It doesn’t have to be this way. This city's massive wealth inequality is a policy choice made in Albany, and we're paying for it right here in Brooklyn. The people of this neighborhood are crying out leaders who will prioritize their needs over the needs of the one percent — just look at how many of us voted for Mayor-Elect Zohran!
We're on the verge of a tipping point, closer than ever to a government that will tax the rich and share the wealth with the workers who created it. But in Bed-Stuy, we’re up against an entrenched establishment candidate with “significant financial support from super PACs affiliated with major real estate figures and pro-charter school interest groups,” as City & State reports.
If you’re a renter or a parent like me, this may explain why we’ve gotten zero relief since 2020. You know that Bed-Stuy deserves better, which is why I’m asking for your support.
Please, Ralph: Can you chip in $5, $25, $50 or even more by 11:59pm to help us hit our crucial December fundraising deadline? We’re going to need you and everyone who cares about Bed-Stuy if we’re going to beat the real estate developers who think they can buy this race.
I also hope you'll join me this weekend for our Tax the Rich, Fund Child Care! Rally & Canvass. I'll be canvassing this Saturday at noon in Crown Heights, but you can find canvasses near you all weekend long!
Thank you for believing a better Bed-Stuy is possible.
