Bodegas. Bagel shops. Barbershops. Local childcare providers.
Small businesses are part of the lifeblood of our city, but for many, it has long been too hard to navigate regulations and keep the doors open. That’s why we announced “OPEN for Small Business” — more than 50 regulatory reforms that will reduce paperwork and regulatory hurdles for small businesses in our city.
Regulations like a separate frozen dessert permit to serve ice cream, or three different licenses to cut hair, or arcane rules for bingo earnings have for too long held our small businesses back. Now, we’re beginning to move forward.
“OPEN for Small Business” will not only help our city’s 180,000 small businesses that employ more than one million New Yorkers — it proves that we have arrived at a new era of who our government can work for. And from a winning streak at bingo to a sweet treat from the ice cream shop, I’m proud to make it clear that we’re in the pocket of “Big Abuela.”
Ralph, when I was inaugurated I said the era of small expectations and even smaller ambitions was coming to an end. I promised that every day, I would wake up focused on how we can make our city work better for working people than the day before.
We won the incredible privilege to make this city work for all of us with your help, Ralph.
This week’s announcement represents real progress. And it’s just the beginning.
We built our movement one conversation at a time. To continue to grow our coalition, we’ll need to keep organizing across every borough and every block. We know that the establishment wants to beat back our hard won progress. So we keep organizing. We keep showing up for our neighbors. We keep building.
Thank you.
Together,
Zohran
