Ihave a new Pixma MG3060 that worked beautifully for a couple of weeks but now refuses to print. It is connected to a Windows 10, 64 bit machine. I have used both wireless and USB connections and behaviour is the same. Stand-alone functions (eg. copy) work fine. The printer dialogue says "Collecting printer status" and a Windows notification says "Printer is in error state". After rebooting both the computer and the printer without success, I re-installed the driver but the condition remained the same. Finally, I reset the printer to factory settings and went through the setup process again. This worked. The printer worked for a couple of days but now has returned to the error state, as before. I have browsed several printer support forums and have seen this sort of problem reported for a variety of Canon printers, and have tried all the suggestions, but still no luck.

Patrick, Thank you for replying. The Error light does not blink. When I reload the software the Test Print paper prints, but while printing any other page it gives "Printer in Error state" Message and "Printer not responding" in Printer window. Please help. Thanks.

You can try restarting the Windows Print Spooler. To do this, open the search feature on your Windows computer and type services and press enter. Once the services window opens, scroll down to until you see Print Spooler. Right click on PRint Spooler and select restart. The print spooler will restart and then you can try to print again.

Hi,

I reinstalled the program and it works better now. Not perfect because I often have to shut off and reopen the printer because it doesn't start printing. I have all the time the message: printer is not responding. Please, help.

Thank you

1. Click the Start Button and search for the Control Panel, then open the Control Panel.

2. Open "Programs and Features", or "Uninstall a program".

3. Uninstall the MG3000 MP Drivers and the Canon IJ Network Tool if either of these are listed. If these are not listed, move on to the next step.

4. Go back to the Control Panel.

5. Open Devices and Printers.

6. Right-click and delete or remove any copies of the printer that are listed here.

Then I added the printer to other computers (a Windows and a Mac one), and they correctly detected it. However when I try to send a document to the printer, with one of the three computers (Ubuntu included), the following error appears both in the CUPS web gui and in the Properties window of the Ubuntu Printer Setting:

Hello jessie1964,

Welcome to the HP Forums.

I see that your Photosmart 6510 is not printing, and indicating it's in an error state. I would like to try and help you with this.

On the printer is it providing any error messages or numeric codes? What's the error message that you are recieving?

Does this occur with any source you're printing from?

Can you make a copy on the printer?

Please respond back with more information, and I would be happy to help you out.

Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

I recently had to have Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Power Point, and Excell) reloaded as it refused to open documments from directories (although I could open them by opening the programs first from the Program Directory.

As I understand, your Officejet 8600 will not print from your computer specifically, (it will print from your other PC), and the printer will also make copies successfully. If this is correct, the printer itself is fine, and the concern seems to be with your own computer.

I have some ideas that may help.

Please respond to me with the following. If there are any steps here that you have not tried, please try them before responding and include the results:

How is the printer connected (USB/ wireless/ wired/ Bluetooth)?

What is the Operating System of the computer that will not print?

Have you tried printing from different programs (websites, Notepad, Paint, Word, etc)?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software?

Run the Print and Scan Doctor and include the results, only if you are running a Windows OS.

Have you completed all Windows/Mac Updates?

Have you tried using a different USB/Ethernet cable?

Thank you

I work in a large school and when this happens during the break teachers all sent out their documents and when they find them not printed they print it on another printer. But when the initial printer is back online it is printed again resulting in a huge waste of paper.

When a printer or device is in error, print jobs can get lost, refunds might be needed, and highly-sensitive documents could be compromised. Support demands can quickly escalate when you have to deal with frustrated users on top of resolving the...

You would generate a lot of traffic just to check a printer status - why not have the prints spooled but not printed and the teachers use logins, passwords or swipe cards to access their prints from whatever printer instead of one the focus on?

Fast River School have been monitoring their overall print system health for a while now, and would like to add some extra endpoints to monitor the status of their printers. They would like to be notified when the following occurs:

Every time I try a first print job after logging on, I receive a message saying that my Pixma TR4720 is in error status. When I go into the printer troubleshooter it sets the TR4720 as my default printer (which I thought it already was) and the printer will then function. However, the default status will not hold and I have to go through this process every time I try to print after logging on again.

Both the printer and the computer are just a few months old. I spent time with Dell Premium Support, which did not solve the issue. I then deleted and re-installed all of my Canon printer software, which also did not help. I have tried repeatedly to set the printer as my default in Windows, likewise to no avail (I'm running Windows 11). Any suggestions?

in my application (Windows 7, VS2010) i have to decrement a credit counter after successfully printing an image.Anyway, before starting the entire process, i'd like to know about printer status in order to alert the user on paper out, paper jam and so on.Now, looking around i found several example that use Windows WMI but... never works. Using THIS snippet, for example, the printer status is always ready also if i remove the paper, open the cover... turn off the printer.

The printer status is always good also now, that i'm testing from office the printer that is comfortably turned off at home.have I to detonate the device by dynamite in order to have a printer error status?

The PrintQueue class in the System.Printing namespace is what you are after. It has many properties that give useful information about the status of the printer that it represents. Here are some examples;

You don't say what version of .Net you're using, but since .Net 3.0 there has been some good printing functionality. I've used this and whilst I can't be sure that it reports all kinds of status levels, I've certainly seen messages such as 'Toner Low' for various printers etc.

However, if your printer is not the default printer you need to load that printer's queue instead. What you need to do instead of calling server.DefaultPrintQueue you would need to load the correct queue by calling GetPrintQueue() then pass it the printer name and an empty string array.

If it happens with word and Acrobat and different other software, I would suppose it to be a MacOS problem. Somewhere else I read there could be an issue with the SFCompactDisplay-Heavy font.

Same issue since upgrading to Mojave in December 2018. Have tried driver reinstalls, installing acrobat and reinstalling, multiple system reboots, printer restarts, resetting the printer network settings and multiple other possible solutions, all to no avail. Can print from others apps, just not from Acrobat. Can also print pdf files from Preview with no problem. No prepared to reinstall my whole OS for this. Adobe need to sort it!

I see that this post is Jan 2018 so it may have been resolved? However, I am using Acrobat Reader on a MacBook Pro 2011 with OS High Sierra and I get the same error when printing PDF from Acrobat. The fix for me is to select 'actual size' not 'fit' in the print dialogue window and it prints just fine. HTH

The issue that the printing through shipstation connect is still not working. I had the old version, downloaded the new version and it worked for one day. As of yesterday 3/12/24 I started getting the same error "Printing Error - There was a problem downloading the document."

Ok, I was able to get in touch with someone from shipstation. He went to settings (the gear on the top right) and selected printing, then printing setup. Under the Print To he clicked on the zebra printer name and a popup came up. He then clicked on Always Promps.

The first option works out of the box. By default a PaperCut server can interface with the Windows printing system to determine the state of a printer. Windows printing systems have long had the ability to get the current status of a printer and display this to users, as described here:

To configure PaperCut to query printers over SNMP to determine the error state, instead of relying on Windows you will need to edit the configuration file for a PaperCut component known as the Print Provider that runs on all PaperCut servers, Secondary Servers, Site Servers, and workstations running the Direct Print Monitor.
