Many neurodegenerative diseases exhibit a problem with glucose
metabolism. Here is an excerpt from a paper published in 2005
describing an imaging study done on some CBD and PSP patients where
lower glucose metabolism was used to identify the affected regions of
their brains. This is just one example. What this says to me is,
following Dr. Newport's line of reasoning for her husband's early-
onset Alzheimer's disease, glucose hypometabolism may be more than
just a convenient way to determine which areas of the brain are
affected by a certain disease. It may be a therapeutic target! In
other words, ketone therapy may be beneficial.

"...Compared with the normal controls, asymmetry in the regional
glucose metabolism was observed in the parietal, frontal and cingulate
in the CBD patients. In the PSP patients, the glucose metabolism was
lower in the orbitofrontal, middle frontal, cingulate, thalamus and
mid-brain than their age matched normal controls. A comparison of the
two patient groups demonstrated relative hypometabolism in the
thalamus, the mid-brain in the PSP patients and the parietal lobe in
CBD patients..."
