The NV question reminded me that I wanted to ask if anyone has spandsp
working with txfax and rxfax for Asterisk 1.4.19 or any recent version
for that matter?

Last few times I've tried it, it just crashes Asterisk.

I also tried the Pika Asterisk fax product but it runs a "Windows style"
installer which means you have to have X installed and execute it from
the console of the server you want to install it on.

I hate when Windows programmers try to write Linux software.... ;)

I filed a ticket with them but nobody got back to me yet.

John

Works fine for me with 1.4.19, agx-ast-addons 1.4.5 and spandsp 0.0.4pre18. No crashes at all.

Do you mind if I ask what hardware you are running in terms of zap-style
cards?

You were able to send and receive fax through a SIP/IAX channel over the internet reliably ?

I haven't done an extensive testing, but I tried with Jfax, several landlines here and in US and all was fine. No crashes, no failed faxes so far.

I assume you must have been using the NV stuff along with it since
spandsp works with hardware only.

While I am using nvbackgrounddetect, in the past I had spandsp and app_rxfax working without it.

We've been really happy with them.

So much so that we started recommending them over Polycom sets about a year
ago.

I just love those phones. Very good quality, easy to configure, feature
rich, and the support and documentation from Aastra is great. It's
amazing what you can do with the XML. Plus they are a Canadian company.
