Anyone has experience to share with connecting an asterisk server to AllStream SIP trunk service ?

Let me know how it goes. How much bandwidth per channel is AllStream recommending?

I think you need to have MPLS network. AllStream does not provide sip trunk
through the public Internet.
Same as Terago they provide the SIP trunk through the E10 MPLS network.

Subject: [on-asterisk] AllStream SIP trunk
Hi all,
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I contact AllStream Sales and ask for the new SIP Trunking service through
public Internet. They are only offering to the retail market. They do not
want to sell to small re-sellers. I ask for the 2 virtual pri... they are
not in a position to sell.
Wholesale department want a minimum of 200 channels commitment.
But their retail market price is attractive a bi-directional channel is
$14.00 and DID is 2.00
Does anyone have the AllStream SIP trunking service?
Thanks
Lloyd
He can give you details

1. Make sure to factor in the cost of their internet service per channel. Not sure how competitive Allstream internet pricing is
with Cogeco Data / Cogent / et al.
2. Make sure you confirm what "bi-directional" really means. They expect a certain balance of inbound/outbound traffic. Using
bi-directional channels for mostly outbound may result in penalties and surcharges.
3. Look at the billing increments and rounding. Some carriers charge ¢1 per call minimum - regardless of what your rate is. This is
supposedly due to legacy accounting systems unable to count in fractions of a penny. Some will bill calls in 12, 30 or even 60
second increments. Not so great for dialer / call center traffic.
4. Beware of contracts.
I don't want to pitch on the tech list, but if you are looking for cost effective and reliable SIP services, with an established
user based consisting of contact centers, collections and IVR service bureaus - please contact me off-list for pricing.
No per-channel charges for TF and LD.
Thank you for the recommendations. We are in the business more than 5 years.
We know all the providers and their service level.
"cost effective and reliable SIP services" - we hear this several times.
We want to work with CLEC only.

Lloyd, without starting a flame war - I don't think you ever worked with us, so "We know all the providers and their service level"
is not quite true. We would be happy to provide references from clients including multi-site 400+ seat call centers using our
services for outbound as well as inbound.
These are mission critical services for them, and our platform is designed to be stable, reliable and handle the volumes - including
high-volume predictive dialling.
As well, due to our collective backgrounds we understand contact centers operationally - which is not true for the average CLEC Joe
selling you a PRI. Because of this, we focus on contact-center specific services such as network call recording, cloud multi-site
inbound call routing and more. But you are welcome to pay $14 per channel on a three year contact if that works within your clients'
business model.
Best Regards,
Ivan,

Ivan is right about checking your ratio, you will have hefty charges if your ratio of outbound calls is more than 55% or so.
The CLEC have to pay a metered rate for all outbound calls to PSTN that are over 50% of their inbound/outbound call ratio.
Maybe Bill Sandiford can add to this as I'm not an expert on CLEC rules, but this will explain that most CLEC prefers to sell inbound traffic only.

Hi,
(Aside: I know you guys personally so I promise you both that this is
a well intentioned misunderstanding)
I think any discussion of "which carrier/service is best" is like the
Mac vs PC debate in other forums, it's almost always going to lead to
impasse and while we all want to get our opinion heard, it's unlikely
that we're going to get someone on the other side of the street to to
cross over. That's especially true when many of us are in business
and have 'a horse in the game' so to speak.
This is one reason why we try to keep this stuff in the biz list, so
that our gentle readers can unsubscribe from the "Which XYZ service
should I use?" and just stick to the "How do I?" questions in the Tech
list.
Thanks everyone your understanding.
