Thanks for getting back. I will try and give you as much information as possible.. I have got a Windows 7 Home premuim laptop and a primavera p6 software.. I tried downloading the software in standalone mode.. it takes me through the normal procedures then it tries connecting with the Sql server database...(i am assuming the Sql server of the computer). then a message pops up'' sql server not compatible with the software'' and gives me the option of checking for possible solutions on line.. which came back as having no info.. the download continues after that to the very end...which you are supposed to get a ''connection successful''... but i get an error message saying ''connection failed---Error FFFF''
Am not particularly sure if i wil need to get an sql server/database compatible with this particular software as it installed quite easily in standalone mode with a friend that has a windows XP.. if so... would i have to unistall all servers on my Windows 7 before installing an ''XP like server''. Sorry i can't really help you with all the technical terms but i hope you understand what i am trying to say..
One thing that you can always be certain of with Primavera P6, you can always learn more. There will always be new features and functionality in each new release that you did not know existed. One question that we always hear from students in our classroom based Primavera training is if they can have more than one window or tabs opened while working in P6. Today we are going to illustrate how to use multiple windows/tabs and tiles in P6 Professional R8.2.
P6 Release 8.2 has two new features that will help improve your productivity. The first feature is the ability to open multiple windows/tabs (such as the Activities and WBS windows), and the second feature is the ability to tile the windows horizontally or vertically by opening multiple tab groups. In previous releases of P6, you could only work with one window at a time. For example, if you wanted to set up your Work Breakdown Structure, then you would have to click on the WBS button on the Directory Bar. If you wanted to work with activities, then you would need to click the Activity button. In other words, you could not work with and view both windows at the same time. Oracle Primavera solved this problem in their latest release, P6 Professional R8.2. You will now have the ability to work with multiple windows/tabs.
P6 R8.2 enables you to tile windows vertically or horizontally by opening multiple tab groups. Tiling is very efficient when you need to work within multiple windows and do not want to move back and forth between windows. For example, as indicated above, we may need to work with both the WBS and Activities windows. We can use the tiling feature to display both windows simultaneously.

Please my problem is that,
If a resource who work 8hrs/d earn 20$/hr, the cost for one day will be 20$8hr= 120$. If this resource work 4days, the cost is suppose to be 120$ 4days= 480$ total cost of working in that activity and this represent normal situations. But it is not so with primavera, please help me out could it be settings? And if you input the above data into your primavera software you will notice that the cost of this resource will be 3840$. My question is, is this normal? If is normal then p6 is not efficient in terms of cost. But if this is not normal, please help out what should i do to correct this problem. Thanks so much.
