Not able to retrieve tasks since morning

Is there an issue ? Since morning it goes to retrieving 100000+ tasks and keeps going and I have only 40 or so talks in my google tasks

Hello Sanjaya,

There is a major issue with the way that Google Tasks Backup communicates with the Google Tasks Server, causing an endless loop where it appears that the same subset of tasks keep getting returned to GTB. That is why the tasks count keeps going up.

I have taken GTB offline, because it is currently unable to complete backups.

The problem appears to be in code which I inherited when I took over the project, and is very old. Some code dates back to 2010, and has since been deprecated.

It will need to either fix or replace the misbehaving code, and that could take quite some time.

I hope to have some better idea on how long it will take to fix in the next 12-24 hrs.

I will post updates on this forum, and on the GTB home page.

Thank you for the update. I love the application. It helps me so much with my efficiency, I am going to miss it while its offline . I fully understand the problem it must be for you to chase up the old code and then keep updating it step by step.

Hello Sanjaya,

I have made significant changes to GTB, and I have brought GTB back online.

The issue was caused by Google Tasks server returning an excessively high number of errors, and how GTB handled those errors. The server is not currently returning any errors, so I am unable to test the changes I have made, but hopefully GTB should now better handle excessive Google Tasks server errors.

Please let me know if you experience any further issues.
