Hi Pavel,
I'm one of whom made login... But I did not find the time to made a
"serious" proof.

For what I've seen, it is a very good project.
I still prefer the txt file, but I undertand, that my client could
prefer a GUI, and this one, looks like it's a good choise, that can
erase the differences with the various MS Project like project.

My compliments

Renato

Hai Pavel,

First I want to say that I really like the initiative for a TJ3 webgui !
I think our team can really use an interface like this.

Some feedback I have:
* I had to search a while to find out how to create a new project: The [New Record] [Edit] [Cancel]  and [Save] buttons on the bottom of the page don't feel intuitive to me.
I think I would have placed them somewhere in the top of the Tab, like the layout of the top-panel.
* When I try to create a new project I get an error I don't understand: "Formular obsahuje chyby".
* When I try to add a task under my new project the panel says I have to press the button [Add] but the mentioned button does not exist in the Task-tab of the project.
* When I navigate between the tasks and projects the views have so many items that I get scroll-bars on the right. I think it would be nice/wise to prevent scroll-bars and have only the most important information in a view, and the less-used information in another (sub?)-tab/view.
... and I found many more things, but I don't think that email is the way to give you all this feedback ...

Some questions I have:
-> Is there already a bug-tracker (Bugzilla/Trac/Mantis) for Metis?
-> Is Metis going to be open source?
-> What are the platform requirements for Metis?

kind regards,

    Egon

Hi Pawel,
I tried for a very short time, and I have to say it is not what I though it would be - it seems to be more of a GUI for modifying the TJ3 source file as opposed to an interactive application like MS Project for example. If I am correct then it's not what I hoped and on that count at least I am a little disappointed.
That being said, I really dislike the complexity of editing TJ3 files and finding references to other tasks, and you seem to have solved that quite nicely.
One question, did you look at using another pre-existing front end, such as GanttProject or DotProject, instead?
Regards, B

TaskJuggler is more than gantt chart tool. At least for us. We plan to add some interactive gantt view above Tasks however other options will remain.
For fancy gantt charts we have tools like MSProject or GanttProject. For project planning with multiple scenarios, cost calculations and monitoring project execution it's TJ (more like generic resource planning). We had very complex tool based on MS Project with extensive customization however we have to develop our own project management tool and when we looked at result and we had subset of TJ planning with timesheet reporting.
We decided to go with TJ and that is our first result. Some future directions:
- complex planning with multi project support
- resource sharing
- better booking integration
- better project monitoring

We think about joining our CRM tool with reporting and monitoring system. Our project definitions will be generated automatically from CRM via rules (Drools). Account booking will be auto generated from Orders, ... .

Hi,
What I wanted to know is - and sorry for not being clearer in my original post - did you think about linking the TJ3 backend with an existing front-end, such as Gantt Project? If you did, why did you not proceed? I'm asking because that's the idea that I would like to work on later this year.

I don't see how to join them. Once you draw your gantt what TJ will do for you? TJ is responsible for layouting your gantt chart with different type of work, resource handling and shifts and ... . TJ is responsible for drawing your gantt chart once you specify your requirement.

I think what you have built is very good, but does not address my particular use case.
My perspective is a different one; I actually like TJ3 for it's ability to specify and schedule projects correctly, but I don't care for the output it produces (I output to a spreadsheet and then slice & dice) or the lack of an interactive editor (to make things like liking to other tasks easier). In an ideal world I'd much rather have an interactive editor (Gantt Project would be good, the UI from the ill-fated Face project is even better) and some efficient background processing.
Anyway, just my ideas, not worth much because I haven't actually built anything and you have!

Hello, thank you for your feedback. We will consider it. Answers to your questions:
- We have no bug track right now
- Open source - undecided
- Platform is PURE java, tomcat and now DB is postgresql but can be any big web server or DB which have hibernate binding

Hello,

We are in process of make GUI less taskjuggler oriented and more project oriented. However I'm still fighting with special stuff like work booking, multiscenarios, ...

I'm looking to do this with real, private data.

At 3AM all data are removed. Be careful. It's not for some 'real' testing. It's just like bete/preview to take taste.

I like what I saw so far.

I have attempted (unsuccessfully) building a UI for TJ3. Yours looks much more polished. Awesome job!

Problem is that initial model is more like data model of TJ3. It's not project oriented, at least for our internal stuff. You have to understand TJ for using it.
