Internationalization

Hello!  I have worked with Taskjuggler for some time with small projects, mostly to just quickly get something together to show a client; all my colleagues always use MSP, since that is pretty much the standard in construction.

But now I am about to actually head a project, and since I am living in another country where few speak English well, I would like to figure out how to "internationalize" TaskJuggler.

I've figured out that I can write two sets of reports and change the titles and headings and it will generate two sets of .html files.  Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to put the task names in two languages, and have the report select the correct task name.  I don't think that flags will help.  I am thinking of generating two scenarios, one with tasks in one language, and the other with tasks in the other language.

The only other way to get this done, it seems, is to just have two files, and update each one in its own language.

Any ideas?

Hi,

two scenarios would mean, that you always have to update the efforts, resources and everything simultaniously in both scenarios, right? That sounds annoying and error-prone.

I would do it (on Linux) with a custom setup and a Makefile. (Only if there is no i18n facility for this of course. Didn't researched this.)

With a custom setup, it could look like this:

Makefile
tasks.csv  (three columns: task_id, language1, language2)
project.tjp

and make generates
project.en.tjp
project.de.tjp

project.tjp needs some kind of placeholders for the task description which are replaced by the corresponding translation from the csv file. This can be done by sed, or you use a template engine like m4. sed is easier.

Or maybe better: leave out the task description in project.tjp and just have the task_id. Then you can use sed or awk to insert a complete line for project description below the corresponding task_id.

Regards, Jakob
