Talking Points for Excessive Rainfall in Florida
Key Points
Tropical moisture will stream northward into Florida from the Caribbean, bringing heavy to excessive rainfall to much of central and south Florida through the weekend.
Across South Florida, totals of 7 to 10 inches are forecasted with locally higher amounts in excess of 15 inches. This may not fall evenly across the week, or even each day.
Bursts of rain from thunderstorm activity may produce rainfall rates in excess of 2 inches per hour at times.
Flash and urban flooding will be likely, with locally considerable flash flooding possible in urban areas, especially in typically vulnerable locations.
More rural locations may become susceptible to flooding later in the week if widespread rain occurs.
Widespread riverine flooding is not expected.
A Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) of Excessive Rainfall is in effect for central and south Florida each day Tuesday through Saturday.
