Good afternoon everyone,

The NWSOC received a tasker this morning from PCO via Capt. Lomnicky, NOAA Liaison Officer to US Coast Guard. Specifically, the USCG asked what a prolonged El Nino through winter might mean for the Mississippi River water levels and were looking for a few sentences to send to USCG senior leadership.

The NWSOC worked with our colleagues and subject matter experts at the National Water Center (with help from the LMRFC) and Climate Prediction Center to answer this request for a key partner.

Here is the document with a summary, outlook and some other notes about El Nino and its possible impacts on the Mississippi River this winter. The document is accessible NOAA wide. Thank you to NWC and CPC.

If you need any more information, please feel free to reach out to us at the NWSOC
