different background color for scenes and their buttons

On a given scene with buttons, I can change the background color of the scene along with the buttons' bg, or the text color of the label on the button, however I can't figure out how to change the buttons background color independently of the bg color of the scene.

Please advise;

Don't use buttons use a rectangle element instead this way you can pretty much have any color,shape style of button you want. You can't change the color of the button elements.

But of course the obvious question:) what can buttons do that rectangle elements can't?

Is there a feature comparison chart as to what functionality scene elements can/can/t do compared with each other?

Nothing, They are the same but allow for more customized look and feel.
