All My Profiles Have Vanished!!

I'm really hoping that this isn't permanent because I don't know how
this possibly could have happened. I was looking over some profiles,
not changing anything or saving anything, when I hit the back button
and I guess I held it down a bit too long because Tasker was killed.
It's happened before and nothing drastic happened, but this time when
I reopened Tasker, all of my profiles and tasks were completely gone.
How could this have happened? I was just thinking about doing a backup
today because I had changed/added/deleted a bunch of stuff earlier in
the day, but of course this happened before I did that. Please tell me
this isn't so :-(
Is there any way for me to recover them?

No. Have been using 1.0.12m for quite a while.

I'm afraid not, if you havn't done Menu / Profile Data / Restore at
all :-(

A problem with the interaction between the launcher and long-click
back was fixed in 1.0.13, perhaps your problem is related. I can't
reproduce the problem in the current version on 2.2 with the standard
launcher, it just exits immediately no matter how long I hold down
Back.

I figured as much! Thanks for the answer. Have recreated most
everything I really need but have a question about backing up. Seems
like I can only have 1 copy of a backup within Tasker. Is there some
other way I can backup all my profiles/tasks outside of Tasker?
Given the situation with the interaction between the launcher and the
long click using 1.0.12, I think its time I upgraded.

BTW Pent, I am crazy about Tasker. It occupies way too much of my
time! My oldest son has been a devotee of your app for a long time and
has been trying to educate his old mother in the ways of Tasker. I
think I might actually be getting the hang of things :-)

Currently only manually (by copying /sdcard/Tasker/userbackup.xml
somewhere else).
There a todo list item for a file selector on the backup/restore.

Not saying it's necessarily the same thing. If it's still happening,
please get back

It does seem to awaken a dormant customization demon in some
people :-)

I'm running 1.0.13m, have never installed a BETA and woke up this
morning to find all my profiles had vanished. Nothing else had been
changed on the phone to affect this.

I haven't done a backup but to be honest, I shouldn't have to for
normal day to day running.

I'm becoming less impressed with Tasker the more I use it - perhaps
I'm not being complex enough but simple functions require complex
tasks / variables to achieve. I'm seriously considering moving back
to Locale

Which device / ROM are you running ? How's your free memory (Android
Prefs /
Applications / Running Services / (available mem at bottom) ?

If this was a Tasker error, then of course I agree. But in general,
any computer data of any use should be backed up since software/
hardware failures can come at any time.

The first few months after launch I've been focussed on
putting in the most-requested things and fixing the biggest
complaints.
Next few months I'm going to be consolidating, looking at how things
can be improved, smoothing the edges.

I welcome input. Which simple functions take too much effort to
configure ?
Could you please start a new thread for that if possible though.
