I use media>audio record to record. I then use 'music play' and 'music stop' for playback, but I can't pause/continue the clip.
Using Media>Media Control>Pause/Toggle Pause, does NOT produce the desired effect. It plays back another stream simultaneously; confusing results.
So, how do I pause-resume an audio playback that was started with 'music play'?
Thank you much.

Try using the plugin, media utilities.

It has several 'smart' features. Like pause if music is playing, or if not, then play music, in one simple action.

It also populates several media related variables for use within tasker.

Media utilities does not cut it. I tried several options, play/pause/smart pause/ but it has no effect at all on 'music play' option of media control. Media utilities sort of implies it when thy say 'for the current media application'. Seems like Tasker 'music play' is not a media application as far as Media Utilities is concerned.

I guess I will need to learn advanced Tasker syntax and manually track the time music play is running and then use 'media skip' smartly in a loop to advance to the last point. Although I write Java software, I hesitate to learn yet another syntax/language so that it should not interfere with the core development (Java database stuff) I do.

Thanks
nat

... ohhhkay.

How did you get tasker working as a functional media player?

So, you're thinking its a media player plugin, and NOT a tasker plugin.

Alright then, I'll bite. How would that work? Like, somehow the Media Utilities fixes broken media player functionality or something?

... Sorry for the confusion, but I just don't think so.

Just sayin', at least for me 'media play' action usually needs to preceed a playlist selection command, which opens the default media player usually anyway.

Maybe your device is different?!?

I use 'music play' and give it a file name. No Plugin is used.

Ah!

Hmm. That is the issue then.

media play file doesn't utilize a music player.

You will need to utilize an action that starts a media player to stream media, in order for media utilities to function properly.

Sorry, totally forgot there IS another way of playing music using tasker actions.

Starting a media player action is good, BUT the problem with that for me was that I need it to play a specific file automatically. I couldn't get that chore done with a variety of media players. They are TOO smart for this simple task.

Bump, did you ever find a solution? Taskers simple 'music play dir with random & subdirs' is perfect for me, never did find an app in the play store that could actually do that, but I'd like to pause rather than stop.

I'm kind of jumping in here but if I understand correctly, most music player apps will do the same thing as 'music play dir (random, subdirs)'.  Use global 'shuffle'.  The problem is if the shuffle setting will stick when you close the app and restart it.

But why use another app when 'music play dir' works just as well?

I use it in my car and have no problems pausing and resuming.  I use 'media button events' to redirect the button presses.

How, when there are no actions for pause and send media button is in the tasker help as not for takser play?

When connected via Bluetooth, I intercept three media buttons from my car, play, stop and next.

Pressing play and pause on my car causes media button events.  I intercept them with Tasker profiles and use 'music play dir' and 'music stop' actions.

Re-issuing 'music play dir (random, subdirs)' will start a new random song, so when a 'next' media button event arrives, the profile re-issues a 'music play file' action.

Sorry if this wasn't what you were looking for.
