Now that from Android 8.0 (on Android 8.1 it's a bit different history) it's possible to turn mobile data via a single touch on the mobile data toggle from the status bar just like you can do it with Wifi. And don't jump on me saying that this way possible to do on several phones since a few years ago and bla bla bla because tasker can't do this, only with root bla bla bla.... I'm talking about pure Android, on Nexus and Pixels phones. I think that this applies also to AOSP.
Well, what I'm trying to say, if now finally we can touch the mobile data toggle and have mobile data turn on instantly (except on android 8.1 unfortunately) without having to go to settings or whatever, just like the wifi toggle behavior has for ages, maybe, just maybe, there's some possibility to had to Tasker the ability to control mobile data just like we do the same with Wifi, right?!

Is there a question, or are you just ranting?

A question of course...

> A question of course...

Then perhaps can you ask a succinct question free of the ranting?

Not sure if this helps, but on my unrooted Moto G5 plus, autoTools can toggle mobile data on or off. No idea if this also works on Pixel / Nexus devices, but might be worth a try.

I will install it again and look for that... thkx
If it works, this should be something that Tasker could do it by itself...

In your rant you seem to be complaining that you want tasker to do this without root. Auto tools is using a work around by using ADB to get permissions to avoid requiring root.

There's a reason there are plug-ins to tasker.

I'm not ranting... I'm just asking... I'm asking to someone @ Tasker if now this can be able to achive without any root or auto tools method. If with Wifi (turning on and off) can be achieve around some time, now that we finally (with android 8) can turn mobile on an off, maybe, just maybe, there's a possibility to have the same achievement that we have with Wifi... just saying... not ranting...

It's not the method of turning it on or off manually that determines whether or not something like Tasker can turn it on or off. It's still a root issue. As someone else said, AutoTools can do it without root. The developer of Tasker generally tries not to add features that are already included in a plug in since someone else has already done it.
