A (paranoid) friend of mine wants to enable location services when using Google Navigation, and disable it afterwards.  The concept is pretty simple - create a widget/shortcut linked to a task that enables location services and then starts Google Navigation, and use a UI Button Click event to detect exiting navigation and disable location services.  The problem is that "location services" is not the same as "GPS", and I don't see a way to enable/disable location services either with Tasker alone, or a plug-in.  To further demonstrate his paranoia, he wants to disable Wifi & Mobile Network location, in an effort to prevent Google from knowing anything about him (even his contacts are "phone contacts" that he syncs with Outlook using a thrid party desktop app).  Is there a way to do this?

Don't even ask why he has an Android phone in the first place.

You can disable it using the "Secure Settings" plugin. The only problem is that, when you enable the location services, a dialog will open to confirm it (it's imposed by Google). Maybe that's even better for your friend :)

Your friend does know that if the device can make cell phone calls, it's being tracked, right?  Just sayin'.

Your friend should put down his phone, tighten the aluminum foil around his head a bit and go hide in a cave. We are watching him and reading his thoughts. To be honest, it's pretty boring as he spends most of his time jerking off and worrying that someones watching him. As for his thoughts, not an independent one in there... :-) Hope you got a laugh out of this...

I see that now.  I forgot that I had that option disabled in Secure Settings (since I never planned to use it).  The confirmation is what he's trying to avoid, so this option doesn't help either.

Thanks.

I think the problem is that the hat is already too tight; he needs to loosen it a bit to increase the blood/oxygen flow to the brain.

Maybe so. There's paranoid and then him. He's so paranoid he can't think clearly...

When activating location services, why would the dialogue popup bother him? You stated he would be using this only when needed...sooo...he would need to look at his device anyway to see navigation or places, etc.... just click the dialogue box to go away.

I haven't taken a psychology course in 30 years... I have no idea how his mind works.  :)

If he has root, and I have a sneaking suspicion he DOESN'T, then a 'Run Shell' action with an 'input tap' command would have done the trick to close the dialog box after it pops up.  You would figure out the co-ordinates for the 'input tap' command by turning on the 'Pointer location' in 'Developer' settings to show the X and Y values for the shell command.

Hope that helps... I feel for you ;) .
