Ok, I'm trying to get this to work reliably and I'm not having much luck. The Locale plugin doesn't seem to work well. Is anyone using Tasker for this and what works well for you?

I'm using a wake on lan binary which was compiled for me by the developer of Better Terminal Emulator Pro, it requires root though..
I don't know if it is included in the package or if I'm allowed to share it.
If you want I can ask him..

I use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benfinnigan.wol which includes a plugin.
I use it nightly on my unrooted stock Nexus 4 to wake my main server before I use Foldersync to backup my phone data.

+1 for this app; Wol Wake on Lan Wan by Brobble.  I've used it for quite awhile integrated with Tasker and it reliably wakes several different machines.

I already had this one installed but didn't realize it had a plugin. This one works great but it opens the app to do it. Is really like it to do it quietly. My PC notifies me when it completes the bootup through EventGhost. I'm going to look for a better method but this one does work....

I am rooted (Google Now on ICS) so that's not an issue. Does it give any indication that its running or does it do its job quietly? Is love to check it out if its ok with the programmer...

Any idea what the Tasker Export option does?

I call the binary from Run Shell with Root, you can't see it's running.
I contacted the developer from BTEP immediately after posting my first reply and am waiting for a response.
He compiled ether-wake from source, can't find a valid link to the source anymore..

so I didn't receive an answer from the dev regarding distribution of the binary so I can't share it..
I did check and the ether-wake binary is now part of the BTEP binaries so if you purchase BTEP, the binary is included..

No problem. I had forgotten all about this thread...
