Regarding the new beta version.

Using adb to grant the DUMP permission gives no error. However, the services tab of the Application context still complains that the permission is missing. Also the dumpsys shell command fails for the same reason.

I do not think this is an error on my part. I was able to enable the SET_VOLUME_KEY_LONG_PRESS_LISTENER and WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permissions via ADB with no issue whatsoever.

I've tried to grant the permission several times and I've rebooted twice.

Any help appreciated.

I've even tried un-installing and re-installing Tasker. The result is the same. The other two permissions enable just fine via adb.

However, the DUMP permission is either not being truly enabled or is being ignored.

Is it possible that this just doesn't work on a Samsung device?

I just saw this on reddit.

I don't know if it was an intended side effect, but the dumpsys shell command can now be used without root.
I don't know id or helps to remove the root check mark or not.

Yes, I was the one who posted that. However, as the title of this thread indicates, I am unable to enable the required permission.

Progress :)

I still have the problem that, when selecting Services in an App context, Tasker complains that the DUMP permission is missing even though I have already granted it.

However, my inability to use the dumpsys command is resolved. Apparently I also needed to enable, via adb, the PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS permission.

I have no idea why this was necessary.

I just tried it on my S9+ and indeed Tasker doesn't recognize it but it works nevertheless. Can you check if it works for you even if Tasker thinks it doesn't have the permission?

You are correct, it does seem to work.

Thanks! I added a warning that the permission can't be detected on some devices but that it should still work.
