Hi all,

I was hoping to get some help with a task on tasker. We are using Tasker at the moment to launch an app called 'DigitalSignage' on boot.

We are using Android 5.1.1 on an android media player. This is turn is driving content to a screen.

Tasker launches the app as per the instruction but occasionally, the app crashes. Once this happens, is it possible to then re-launch that same app?

Thank you in advance for any help, we are not Dev's so plain language is much appreciated.

Kind regards
Chris

Yes it is possible with Tasker.

Method #1: If you are NOT technical, you can get the AutoInput app. This app works with Tasker and is from the same developer. What this does is it keeps looking for text information on the display to tell you whether something happens or not. For your exmaple, when DigitalSignage app crashes, does it show certain text? Error messages? If so, AutoInput can detect that and when it is detected, it can tell Tasker to relaunch the app.

Method #2: If you are technical, there are system logs that tell you an app has crashed. You can look for those logs. And if such logs are detected, Tasker can relaunch the app.

Thank you for replying and for giving me a couple of options. We would have to use Method 2 as no text is displayed when the app crashes sadly. I've downloaded Syslog so that we can easily capture event logs etc.

Is there a specific way I will now have to tell tasker how to use this log?

Thanks

You will have to look at the logs right after the app crashes to see which log or logs are related to the crash. Once you have identified the log, you can use the Logcat Event context and put your log in there. Therefore, when Tasker sees that log again, it will run the entry task, which in turn re-launch the app.

When you say no text is displayed when the app crashes, it could be the other way around, what text will you not see if the app crashes? Either way works. But if neither works, then method #2.
