Read SMS while driving

Tasker noob here. I'm trying to setup tasker to read my texts to me
if I'm driving, and I'm having trouble figuring this one out and
getting it to work. I currently have it setup in tasker as stated
below. What do I need to edit on this to get it to work?

Context>Docked any

tasks>1. Media Volume 0
2. System Volume 9
3. Say>Text>SMS from %SMSRN: %MSRB>Engine:Voice>
%SMRN>Stream>System

First I'd make sure that the Dock event works... test it without that
context
Then I'd set media volume to 3 or 5, usually the text2speech uses
multimedia... just to make sure it works before setting it to 0
I'd also change the stream to make sure the stream is good.

Basically make it read the texts, before adjusting the contexts and
other values

I have been working with this too and it is working, but since my
condition is to read it when I am not connected to an AP, I would like
to add something like: When I press the Volume + Key then read the
last message received... is this posible? Assign an Profile when a
Hardware key is pressed?

Maybe :-)

Try an event variable set, %VOLR. If it works (doesn't on all devices)
you can adjust the volume down again and then do whatever you like.

I am using similar profile to read text. It was not working and I changed the : to , and it worked. I changed it because I saw it somewhere on the web.

Another option which is available is to recognize long-press of the search button (under the Event/Hardware menu).

How about the phone asks you if you want it read aloud and you reply with yes or no verbally and it acts accordingly. I have this setup and it is pretty cool.

Somewhere in there is a good joke about your phone saying "Text message from your mistress, would you like to hear it?" "No, shut up you stupid phone!" while you're driving with your wife.... :)

If you have your bit on the side saved as "The mistress" then you have much bigger issues.

I can't see any Tasker users being in that category, but perhaps people who use kid apps created by Tasker might be such issue-laden folks. ;)
