I've got a shortcut that takes a picture, saves it under a sequential name (picture 1, picture 2, etc...) & gives me a notification. Almost all the pictures I take are of my baby, & my wife wants me to text them to her. When I click the notification it shows a scene with buttons for "Text to Wife" & "Cancel". I can set an image for the background, but I'd really like it to show the picture I just took. Is there a way to have Tasker grab an image for a scene by file name?

The %FOTO variable has the filename of the last photo.

With the beta, you can use Element Image to set an image from a
variable.

That's what I want, to set an image from a variable. I have the market version of Tasker.

Well, you can install the beta or wait :-)

What is the current beta number? Is it the version available at http://tasker.dinglisch.net/download.html ?

Sorry, I forgot I took down the beta notice while I work on the next
version.

I got the beta installed (paid for direct version just to donate 'cuz you deserve it). I found where I can use a variable for an image in a scene, but can't get it to work. I tried using element image with the file name, then tried file path, then %FOTO variable... Didn't work. Tried adding a button to change the element image, no luck. All I want is a scene showing the picture with 2 buttons. 1 composes an mms to my wife, the other just destroys the scene. I just need to see if the picture turned out good before sending it, & a standard popup is too small.

Urgh, I accidentally deleted my post. Anyway, what I would do is create a very, very small scene. For the contents of this scene, create just a single button that takes up 100% of the space available in the scene. Label it "text to wife" or simply "wife." For the action, have it send the mms with the %FOTO to your wife and give a visual confirmation(i.e. use Alerts>Flash to display "success!" (Perhaps longpress action could do something useful as well, such as open mms app or hide the scene.)Then, using profiles, show this scene when you enter the camera app and hide it when you leave the camera app.

You should end up with something like this:

You can just use the little thumbnail in the corner(that, when touched, pops up a bigger version) showing the last picture taken, to verify the quality of the shot.

Hope that helps.

Quick note: the display method for the scene should be blocking overlay.

That kind of defeats the purpose. I have the shortcut to take a picture because opening the camera app takes too long, & babies tend to not hold still for pictures. I don't have the same problem when using the camera app (for non-baby pictures), I just use the share button for that. The beta has an option to use a variable for an image in a scene, I just can't get it to work.

Maybe you could use the same preset filename for the image (textthispicture.jpg) but overwrite it when you take a picture? I don't know if that would actually cause the picture to change or if Tasker keeps the old one in the memory. Perhaps Tasker removes pictures from memory if it's not shown -- maybe if you have textthispicture_1.jpg (the last picture you took) displayed and take a photo, the new photo is saved as textthispicture_2.jpg, which is a hidden element in the scene. So then you just unhide textthispicture_2.jpg and hide textthispicture_1.jpg, and maybe Tasker will load the new image?

No idea, just thoughts.

IT WORKS! It doesn't even need to hide & unhide. It overwrites the last picture. I just added a copy file action so I wouldn't lose the old picture.

As a side note; compose MMS works fine with the standard messaging app, but crashes every time with Chomp SMS.

It's probably that app not handling the intent parameters correctly,
but I'll look at a log if you like.
