Inconvenient physical buttons on my Samsung Prevail (Gingerbread
2.3.5) led me to Tasker. They have an annoying feature that during a
phone call a screen pops up saying "Press the LOCK key to unlock" to
prevent your face from bumping a button. The unlock key is the power
button, which is hard to reach on the top of the phone. I'm currently
in my trial with Tasker, trying to figure out if it can do anything of
what I want and thus whether it's worth me purchasing. I've scanned a
bunch of discussion posts, and it seems that hanging up is not a
feature that you can do anymore due to Android limitations, but maybe
I'm wrong. I haven't been able to find any help on the other areas.
Any advice would be appreciated to know how/if:

1. Can I use the CAMERA BUTTON to turn the screen on if it is off?
2. Can I use the CAMERA BUTTON to unlock the screen when the phone is
in use and it says "Press the LOCK key to unlock"?
3. Can I use the CAMERA BUTTON to hang up the phone (when the screen
is unlocked)? Maybe through a simulated screen touch?

Thanks!

Not in recent Android releases.

Possibly, if you have a rooted phone, which I guess you don't.

Possibly. Try the event hardware / camera long press, connect it to
the Phone / End Call action.

I tried what you suggested (which I'm pretty sure I'd tried before)
and it didn't work. Just to clarify, it was the following:
Event / Hardware / Button: Camera (not long press, not too sure if
there's a different option for that), then new task connected to:
Phone / End Call

No effect at hanging up the call.

Does it work with an Alert / Flash instead of End Call ?

Could be your camera button isn't being picked up, it isn't on all
devices. Unfortunately Android doesn't let me query to see if it's
there and accessible.

p.s. sounds like Tasker won't be much use to you :-)
