I've seen this discussed episodically in other threads but haven't seen it resolved.  It seems that at least on some phones (I'm using stock ICS on the HTC Incredible S), the received voicemail event is not captured by Tasker.  Even if I set up a notification-event profile to catch *any* notification, this profile is not triggered by a received-voicemail notification.

I know this notification should be capturable, since A Better Voicemail Notifier (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gabriloware.notifier.voicemail) captures it just fine on my phone.  Actually, using Tasker to capture notifications from this app is a workaround for me for this problem.

I just noticed they added an interface for voicemail in ICS, should be
able to add an event for it.

Great!  Thanks for the quick reply.

Hey Pent - I was hoping to see this in the beta you posted, but (unless I missed this) it's still not there. Any chance of including it? I would guess that others would find it useful as well (in fact, I'm surprised not to see a lot of people yammering about it).

Mr. Prent:

Have you been able to work on adding an event for voice mail?

I am unable to capture a voice mail notification, trying it 2
different ways. I've tried using the %NTITLE variable but it reports
"missed call" even though voicemail was the most recent notification
sent. I also tried event>ui>notification. I then put *voicemail* in
the title line. The notification actually reads New voicemail (X)
where X is the number of voicemails. I've also tried * voicemail * and
New voicemail (*) in the title line. Nothing works.

Tasker is turned on in accessibility. I am running the beta 13 version
of tasker on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, rooted, running JB Sourcery 4.5

Have you had a chance to make any progress on this?
My office has a "no cell phones" policy, so mine stays out in the car.
I created a profile/task to e-mail me if I miss a call (it sends me the date, time, caller ID, and battery level), but I still have to call back to my phone to check for a new voicemail - which then generates another "missed call" e-mail to me).
If there were a way for Tasker to trigger a task with notification of a new voicemail, I wouldn't have to make that extra call.

I've been unable to figure out how to capture a voicemail notification.  Even using a generic Notification context, with no Owner Application or Title specified, the notification does not trigger the context.  Using a script command 'dumpsys notification' (requires root) shows that the notification is produced by package com.android.phone, so the best I've been able to do is determine that the notification is there, but I still have no way to know when it first appears.  It's a very frustrating situation.

I would recommend two things:

1. filter out your office number in the context for the profile, so that it doesn't trigger the email

2. if you're rooted, wait a few minutes after a missed call, then use a script command 'dumpsys notification' (requires root), to get a listing of the current notifications.  Then match against *com.android.phone* to see if there's a voicemail notification.  If there is, then send the email.

A workaround is to use the app A Better Voicemail Notifier and use Tasker to detect notifications from that app. It works well but is obviously just a workaround.

Have you turned on Tasker Accessibility under the Android menu option:

Android > Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility settings > Accessibility (should be checked!)
Android > Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility settings > Accessibility services > Tasker (should be checked!)

Can you get Tasker to recognize other notifications from other apps, or is it only not working for Google Voice?

This has nothing to do with Google Voice. We're talking about capturing native voicemail notifications from the phone. As Pent said, these are not (yet) captured by Taker in any way (even with Accessibility settings set).
