Samsung Galaxy S2 running Jellybean 4.1.

I was irritated by the fact that when USB is plugged in, it switches off Bluetooth, meaning that when I get in the car, BT is off and I have to fiddle around at the first red lights.

So I installed Tasker and have set a task that when USB is plugged in, BT is started.  This does appear to solve the car problem, but isn't exactly what I want.

I have to assume that Samsung/Google have their reason to switch off BT when USB is connected, so what I really want to do is to switch BT on when USB is disconnected, not when it is connected.

Is there a way to do that?  I only see USB connected.

Thank you.

Great product, by the way.

At end of any action, find INVERT. Tick it will consider as NOT or opposite.

Actually no. Google software is just incompatible with Samsung design. You will hear about Samsung developing their own OS in a few years. Especially if Google continues to develop hardware that competes with Samsung.

... now back to our tasker forum.

No, guys, it doesn't work.

I have a profile:

Not USB Connected Any

Which has both a green arrow pointing right and a red arrow pointing left , both pointing to USB BT

Then I have a task USB BT:

1. Bluetooth
Set On

All of which, to a numpty newb like me, seems correct.

But it doesn't do anything.  If Bluetooth is on, it stays on through a USB connect and disconnect, if it's off it stays off.

I have removed the one with the red arrow and it still doesn't work.

Ah.  I have now put in a profile to put up a message when USB plugged in and that doesn't come up either :-(

I'm a bit lost.  Help!

OK.  Essentially I have decided, after much experimentation, that Tasker does not work reliably in any mode.

For example, I put in a profile for a missed call (simply because it's easy to start) which puts up a message "You have missed a call"

That message comes up half the time.  Sometimes the profile is green, sometimes it is not.  It's a mess.

If I replace the message task with "Bluetooth on" it never switches Bluetooth on.

So do I just junk it?

Missed Call is an event, which is instantaneous so I am not surprised that you not always see it go green.

Instead of Bluetooth connected, use the State > Power > Power (Source: Any) context and create an exit task with BT on.

See if that does what you hope to accomplish.

Lizz,

Do you have beginner mode on?

Can you export your profile as a description to clipboard and paste it here?

so what I really want to do is to switch BT on when USB is disconnected, not when it is connected.

This is Context: STATE: Power, USB. DO NOT CHECK INVERT. CHECKING INVERT MEANS THAT CONTEXT IS ACTIVE WHENEVER USB POWER IS NOT CONNECTED.

What you want is USB power context, but with Bluetooth turned on as an EXIT task.

This means, as the context becomes inactive (USB power NO LONGER detected), Bluetooth will turn on. Not, Bluetooth turns on when USB POWER is not connected, which is what you don't want.

Just tested to be sure and yep... this performs how you envisioned tasker working to resolve this for you.

Bravo, thank you both, that now works!

I will try not to come running here next time, but it is complex, though enormously powerful.

I am now thinking of all the other things I could do.  There are many!  In fact, all the little irritations.

Is there any downside (power, resources etc) of having lots of profiles and tasks?

Feel free to come running in here anytime! It always helps to have another perspective :-)

It helps to be familiar with a few things:

1) Read the user guide. It's tough, yes... but try using some of the examples to get a greater understanding.

2) Know how to export and import profiles. As descriptions, and later as xml. It would help you to search for profiles online that you can download and test and examine how those profiles work to understand tasker.

3) Know some basic terms and what they mean; profile, task, global v. local variable, array, tabs, projects.

4) Play around with tasker! Try experimenting with different things :-)

5) It never hurts to stay current in the forum here... even if you don't have a topic posted. Never know what you'll pick-up or idea you'll get.

As for tasker using a lot of battery and/or resources, I have hundreds of profiles active constantly and tasker saves me battery by minimizing screen interaction time.
