Forget a wifi network

I am wondering if it is possible to have tasker forget a wifi
network. I am on an HTC thunderbolt with froyo. The situation is as
follows:

My work network is one of those annoying wifi networks that require
you to open a web browser to "log in". Once logged in, you're all
set.

The problem is, if I am out of range, and return, the phone connects
automatically, interupting my data connection. If I don't remember to
open the browser and log in, I won't get any e-mail / messages /
etc.

I'd like to have tasker "forget" the network when the connection to my
work wifi is lost.

Any suggestions how to do this?

Thanks,

McS

Not possible now with Tasker. Might be possible in the future, I'll
put it on todo list (have to check if Android allows it first).

Hi,

I am hoping for exactly the same thing. I have created profile in
tasker to automatically sign me into the network by using HTTP Post
etc but as an exit task I would like it to "Forget" the network.

If you can find the location where they are stored you could use
locale execute to overwrite the file with one that does not contain
details of your work WiFI... I'm not sure where they are 'remembered'
and 'forgotten' from though...

/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf

^ Perhaps?

I'd use this feature too if it gets added to Tasker. Glad to see this made the cut to get on Pent's todo list. For now we continue to wait. :)

Would you tell me how to use HTTP Post and login automatically to my company website. Infact I do not have to enter a password, I just need to hit enter even the user id and password are blank it will log me into company guest network. Thanks

Just want to chime in and say that I'd use this too.  I succumb to the occasional urge to log onto the network at the local Starbucks, and afterwords my phone connects to a million AT&T sites. Which is a problem because each wants its own pattern of clicks and taps to accept their user agreement.  If I don't notice my phone has joined their wifi, my phone loses its internet connection since it thinks it has a wifi connection to the internet and the router it connects to will block all traffic until I accept their user agreement.

Amazing that I came here to post this exact request, and someone had replied to this 2 year old post not 3 hours ago.

Yes, PLEASE consider adding this functionality. It is greatly needed.

Thank you.

Look in your phone's Wi-Fi settings, pull up list of all `remembered' wifi locations. This is where you delete unwanted ones at. Just check "forget" next to any you no longer want in list.

Jerry, your suggestion works just fine but it is a manual step.   What I love about Tasker it it lets me automate things so I don't have to do them by hand (finger).

I'd like Tasker to automate this so that I can connect  to WiFi at the local coffee shop, then have Tasker notice I have disconnected and remove it from the list of remembered locations so that my phone doesn't connect the next time it is near that WiFi network.

BTW there is an API call that it looks like would do the trick, if Tasker implemented it.  See http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/wifi/WifiManager.html

On that page see

public boolean removeNetwork (int netId)

I just found this app

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dje.openwifinetworkremover

Not a tasker plugin but does the job.

Thanks for suggesting that app!
