Get unread email count

I am trying to get the number of missed calls, unread sms and unread
email count into some variables. The first two are relatively simple
but Im not sure how to get the number of unread emails, even with K9
third party support.
I can only see an email received event, but that will not fire when my
phone is offline, and when I go back online I will have a skewed
count.
Any ideas?

I imagine this could be possible if you have an app installed that tracks such things (ie, launcherproplus, others).  You could possibly use that app's intents as a trigger within Tasker.  I've never gotten intents to work quite right, but you may have better luck.

That sounds like a clever idea.
But I'm not sure how to use an application intent
as a trigger because I don't see that option in the triggers.
